So I was hunting around the internet and stumbled across this gem. It is called Bad Astronomy.
http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/moon_spin.html
It states that the Moon spins while it orbits around the Earth.
*********
"Bad Astronomy: The Moon only shows one face to us because it is not rotating.
Better astronomy: The Moon only shows one face because it is rotating, once every time it revolves around the Earth.
Best astronomy: The Moon does not appear to rotate in the reference frame where the Earth-Moon line is fixed in direction, but it does rotate as seen by an outside observer."
********
Since there is no way to easily comment on the author ridiculous statement. I decided to bring it up here. I almost feel duty bound to show this, because it is the first result from Google 'Moon does not orbit the Earth'.
This person goes on to suggest that the Moon's rotation in sync with the Earth's rotation. So much so that the Moon and the Earth have a one-to-one rotation.
A simple disproof of this is that if the Moon and the Earth were in sync, then if an observer in the USA and an observer in China were to take pictures of the moon on the same day at their respective same times. The observer in China would see the back side of the Moon.
I guess the site's name says it all.
