Trip Computer Flashing???

My trip computer started flashing as if the battery had been disconnected and will not reset( I reset it then 2 seconds later it starts flashing again...). Any one know what may be wrong. Do they have an internal battery that needs changing, is there a broken feed wire??? Any help appreciated. I had just finished replacing the head gasket 50 miles ago.
