I can't exactly post a review. I was sloshed. But since I couldn't get inebriated fast enough, I do remember the openers all too well.
I was told before the show, that the openers were a talented three piece group, with a dark edge and an intriguing female vocalist/songwriter. Instead, it was Lennon.
I wonder if this girl knew who Daniel Ash was before this tour. I wonder if she knows who he is now. I also wonder who Daniel owed a favor to when they booked this band.
Lennon. Be afraid. She appears to be a stoner chick that grew up listening to Cypress Hill and Alanis Morrisette, and god knows why, tries to look like Siouxsie Sioux. I was amazed at the less discerning in the crowd that actually fell for her routine.
Normally I give newcomers a lot of slack. It takes guts to get on stage, no matter what it is you're doing. But this band made me want to die.
I was also dazzled by her amazing range of talents. At one point she picked up a guitar, and played one chord for two bars. Later on she gave us a five second keyboard solo. But most of the time she alternated between her headbanger impression, and my favorite, the tortured artist impression. Lennon's version consists of wrenching her arms while looking at the ceiling. This was especially convincing, when kneeling.
I found the banter between songs astonishingly original and interesting. I bet Siouxsie doesn't say "How y'all going?" Or "Y'all wanna fuckin' RAWK?"
Also, the invisible bass player was a nice touch. He must have been standing over by the invisible keyboard player.
The highlight of the set came when Lennon knocked over her mic stand dramatically and picked up a cordless mic that didn't work very well.
The drummer, however, was incredible. I hope one day he can hook up with a better band. He's fast, and tight, and kept perfect timing with the dreadfully obvious back up tape.
Bands like this make me want to take up golf, and walk around in polo shirts.
