a dang fine show. inspirational. i would love for this tour to result in a live recording (preferably NOT from this venue). the band was tight (i walked away nursing even more annoyance at the fact that i missed the last Dirty Three tour), the drummer was fat, and dammit, that's all i need to feel good. Haven't EVER heard Nicks' voice sound so damn smooth. it took up into the third tune for him to get the cracks ironed out, but there was actual VIBRATO going on later, by golly.
from the way he was working his nose, he's either come down with a cold, or had some sloppy coke backstage...
the crowd was horrendous, yelling out their requests (in some cases, demands) throughout the breaks, typically drowning out the Nick banter, interrupting him whenever he tried to say anything, and in general pissing me (and maybe him) off. i pay good money for my Nick banter, dammit...
there was a girl sitting in front of me who wept throughout the entire show.
the new 'Seeds tune "God is in the house" was a fookin' riot. This was one of the very, very few shows (for any band) i've been to where the crowd was literate enough, familiar enough, intimate enough with the lyrics to actually follow, listen, and react to them in a story-telling manner (and not just shout 'em out, bon jovi-style, along with the band). they laughed at the right places, howled at the right bits (and at least one girl cried on all the sad notes)...
not bad, despite the idiot quotient in the audience. | |
