My father-in-law, has been diagonsed with congestive heart failure about six months ago. And, we have really never had to deal with anything like this, I've always just handled it (if you know what I mean). But, anyway I'm at a total loss now, the man has had a very hard life. He's always been something of a bully (but, not necessarlly a mean one), with a really twisted since of humor, and never wanted to admit he might have a cold or anything else. As it was we had to guilt him into going to doctor, we used his granddaugther's against him, it wasn't very nice but you do what you have to do. And now my mother-in-law thinks he may have had another heart attack on Monday, he is the only one that drives. He's turned so hateful it is totally unbeliveable, I know he's just scared and is taking it out on my mother-in-law, I mean we all know. She can't talk to him, so she sneeks in phone calls to my mom and crys on her shoulder, she can't talk to her son (my husband) because he just doesn't believe this is serious. I can't talk to him because it makes him mad (my husband). He feels that his mother is just is being a worry wart and it will go away, but in the back of his mind I really feel he may understand, but is just afraid or something. Either way he can't or won't listen to his mom, and I just don't know what to do. I know I need to support my mother-in-law and even attempt to be nice to my father-in-law, but how do I get their son to listen and to believe? Can anyone help?
