Cardiomyopathy & Pregnancy

by Lori

I wish I had answers for you, but I'm in the same boat. I have dilated cadiomyopathy and was diagnosed 5/02. My cardiologist believes it is from chemo & radiation that I had as a teenager when I battled hodgkins disease. I never had any symptoms of DCM so we have no idea how many years I may have this. My EF of 30% was discovered by accident. With the help of prinivil and coreg my last echo (6/03) showed an EF of 46%. I have one child already (yrs prior to my diagnosis), but my husband & I desperately want another. I've been weaned of the prinivil & now I'm being weaned of the coreg. It's very scary, but I'm trying to place all of my faith in God. If it's meant to be, it will be. My cardiologist suggested adoption and my OB/GYN says he's never had a patient with DCM that has attempted to get pregnant. My husband & I are determined to at least try to see how things stand when I go in for my next echo on 6/29. By then I will have been off all meds for 1 mo. I wish you all the best and I certainly can relate to your fears. I wish I knew of more people who have tried this.
