I had viral dilated cardiomyopathy

by Kelly

caused by a bad flu bug and was diagnosed after I had 2 healthy pregnancies and births. My son was 9lbs and both kids were overdue.
I guess it depends on what your ejection fraction is and how depressed or enlarged your heart is. Mine was only a 40% ef and it got better with medicine in less than a year. I would LOVE to have another child but my doctors advised against and I am perfectly healthy right now. I have low blood pressure, nothing to stop me from getting pregnant. I don't smoke or drink and I hate being told it's not a good idea to get pregnant when I feel fine.
But the risk is not worth it to me. I guess if I didn't have any children I would risk it, but I do have 2 kids I need to raise and be their mother and putting myself at risk of dying or having an early term baby would be selfish no matter how much I want to have a baby to love. Death is permanent and real, my mother just died of lung cancer this year and she was only 47 and let me tell you it's awful. I am 31 and still need my mom so I know the decision ways heavy on your mind and my advice is to seek out advice from a really good cardiologist and depending on your ej, to go with your instincts.
Good Luck, I really really feel for you.
What caused your cardiomyopathy?
