hi lisa,
my name is frank and i have hcm. i have a pacemaker and defibulator. it started when i was 36. im now 43. i also have chf. for years i was in atrial flutter. ive had 4 ablations and about 12 cardioversions in the last 2 years. about 11 hospital stays also. i ahve a 5 year old and a 3 year old. however i will be divorced soon. illness can brake up a marriage. next tuesday il be going to mt sinia med hospital to wait for a new heart. cardiomyopathy seems to get worse over time with some people. my mom died two days before christmas from it. my brother had a stoke and is in the hospital in a-fib . he is also going through stoke rehab. life is hard but you are right. a transplant is an option but im sure it will not be a walk in the park either. ive been out of work for a year. if you need to talk email me at fjf1327@aol.com. i know how you feel. we are both in the same boat and we both have the same concerns and fears.

cardiomyopathy

by

My brother served in the gulf war. And he has cardiomyopathy. He is 35. They are trying to figure out a way to avoid a transplant right now. he is in the hospital. He has been sick for a least a year now and the doctors haven't been a help to him. I am trying to figure out if it is related to the gulf war and if there is anything that can be done. If you have any information please let me know. thanks

36 year old gulf war vet with congestive heart failure

by

Hi, my husband was recently diognosed with congestive heart failure and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. They did a cathorization on him to find out the reason as to why he has this being so young and basically said it was due to a virus, not knowing where that came from. I know where it came from, the Gulf. He has been misdiognosed with asthma all these years only to cover up what they knew. Now we are in the process of fighting the Government for the benefits he so rightly deserves. If anyone has any information that would help him or if you know other vets with the same problems would you please contact me. Thanks, Andrea Roop

Cardiomyopathy & Gulf War

by

Not sure this will help, but it is interesting that I, too, developed asthma and cardiomyopathy (dilated) after my service during the Gulf War. I've been told there's no tie to the anthrax shots I took.

Heart problems and need someone to talk to.

by

Hi! I don't really know where to start. I have never been on a forum and don't really know where to start. But I need someone to talk to. I just recently found out that i have a clogged artery on the frontal lobe of my heart and 2 more that are narrowing. I have been haveing chest pain for some time. Finally went to the Dr. The Dr's are treating it with meds for now. If they don't work, then they will have to do the angyoplasti. Where the clogged artery is they tell me is a very serious and dangerious part. It could be a very touchy operation. So many things have been running through my head. I just need someone to talk to. If there is anyone out there with the same thing wrong with them or someone who knows something about this, please let me know. Thanks much! Linda

angioplasty

by

My 67 year old brother, very active guy had angioplasty four times in the past 2 years before his problem finally began clearing up. The first ones didn't work out very well. In the meantime his doctors tried a variety of other treatments, none of which did the trick for him. But it is not as dangerous as you sound you've been led to believe.. and I read that next year a new type of 'stent' will be available that will not 'collapse' or get blocked. I have Congestive heart failure and acute breathing problems, too, but I am only doing some medications. I will likely have to try the angioplasty route in the coming months. I get terribly exausted even by walking a short ways. Well, good luck to you! And please don't worry so much.

Someone to talk to.

by

Thank You William, Nancy and everyone else that responded to my request for someone to talk to. My comp went down and I guess I was in a selfpity slump for a while. But thanks to all of you and a lot of research I now realize that what I have wrong with my heart is minor compared to a lot of others. Please keep intouch. It's nice to have someone to talk to.

Mitral Valve Surgery

by

Hi,

My husband has cardiomyopathy, CHF and mitral valve insufficiency. He was recently told by his cardiologist that his mitral valve is functioning at a Grade 3. He's scheduled next week for a transesophageal echocardiogram and possibly another open heart surgery. He had a 6-way bypass 3 years ago and since this time, his health has gotten progressively worse. I'm afraid that he will not survive another major surgery. Do you know what his options might be?

I'm desperate for an answer.

Thank you. Cindy D.

Re: Mitral Valve Surgery

by

hi cindy:

the mitral valve is probably dysfunctional because of the dilated left ventricle. his mitral valve might be amenable to a repair which is a better option than a valve replacement. generally the ejection fraction are better preserved with a repair

My husband has suffered from cardiomyopathy since 2000. This year he had 6 way bypass. He sleeps hours each day but says he feels a lot better. He also has a bad arrytmythmya. The doctor has recommended a defibrillator implant.

Idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and memory loss

by

I am a physician whose 81 year old Dad has late-stage dilated idiopathic cardiomyopathy, with an ejection fraction of 10%. He has had increasing problems with clinical congestive failure in the past year, and recently, his memory has also begun to fail rather suddenly. Studies of his brain show no real structural explanation for this development. Has anyone seen this in other people having his problems? I frankly do not have a good medical grasp on what is going on!

Thank you,
Mark Wick

Hi Mark

by

I know how you feel. I also have dialated cardimyopathy. Praise God my EF has increased from 20% to 45% but still having some of the same problems with being extremly tired and also having the problems with raising my arms. You really need to talk with your cardiologist about the passing out spells that could be your meds are not right or arethmeas in your heart please talk to your doctor ASAP. Maybe that the coreg is to high.I will pray for you and your condition. just know that their are others that truly understand what you are going through. If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus now would be a great time to get to know him. Our Lord could give you the peace and joy we all need while we are here on the wonderful planet! ask him into your heart and feel the prince of peace sooth your wounds.. Romans 3:22-26
If you ever need to talk just E-Mail me. by the way I just turned 40yrs old a few months ago.
With the love of Christ!!
