Married Wing Problem

I have a question. How do you tie in one barb from a goose shoulder feather? Do you marry more than one barb and then remove the extra barbs or do you marry the just one barb only? I have tried to marry just one barb only and it is very hard for me to do, big thumbs I guess. Is there a trick to this?

Thanks,

Don Williams

Marrying One Fiber

August 5 2002, 4:55 AM

Don,

Trying to marry one fiber can drive one to drink, though it can be done. I find it much easier to work from bigger strips, marry them and then strip off the one fiber.

Marrying one fiber is easier with a larger diameter material such as turkey or argus. Goose and swan are so fine that it can be difficult to see which side of the barb has the hooks and which has the barbicles. Make sure to keep your lefts and rights separate, because no amount of skill will marry a single left to a strip from the opposite side.

regards,

dw
