i propose that next year no malaysian agency CD be allowed to judge. since kancil winning ads are supposed to win international shows, that's the criteria, then use international judges only lah. better still, use int judges from cannes. then we know for sure the winners are goin to go on and win cannes. also i propose we rename kancil awards Pre-Cannes awards. Or pre-One Show. Or pre-D&AD show. So ultimately, when we win Kancil, we win in an international show. not a malaysian show.

I propose judges to come from spencer azizul, akomori, crush, ccas, bloomingdale, powerdesign, teabreak, news, youradcanwork, myadwillsurework network, etc. They have no influence on the international networks. Or how about spider, ball partnership, d'arcy, batey, benhunt sdn bhd, beaumont sdn bhd, etc.

BTW I also propose D&AD to get rid of UK judges next year.

In an ideal world the work will get awarded because it fucking blows you away - not because you 'turn up to the ceremony', not because you 'work so damn hard', not because 'its' your time', not because you're 'a local agency' etc...

It's not about "share-share" or "give everybody a chance" - if you make average work you shouldn't get awarded.

Award shows are complete lotteries because a) the politics b)the judges are always going to be biased towards ideas they are familiar with. c) You never know what the flavour of the month execution will be.

However, the bigger the panel of judges the more opinions you get - meaning your great idea might just have one or two champions.

So forget about the local award shows. Kancils are worth absolutely nothing outside of Malaysia. Absolutely ZERO.

Save your entrance money for the real deal - D&AD, Cannes, One Show. If you win in any of these things it's worth 1000 kancils.

But before you enter - make sure your idea is so good it will make the judges piss their own balls inside out.

I went to a post house the other day and agencies big and small had nothing but disgust to express about the judges and their judging.

Adrain Miller can shower himself with as many awards as he wants just to pip the other agencies to the Agency of the Year title but he's come out smelling like shit to all the rest of us.

As for how they recruited the foreign judges... let's just say the Saatchi & Saatchi connection is an example of the kind of cronyism that is as dirty as the corrupt Malaysian political scene that has unfolded before the public eye. Fixing of judges and judgments... hmmm mighty familiar.
