BBDO and KFC part company in Malaysia after 19 yearsJune 3 2008 at 7:42 PM | Hwa Liao Eh! |
| - The business will shift to McCann Erickson, which claimed the estimated RM25 million (US$7.7 million) account after a four-way credentials pitch believed to involve Ogilvy & Mather as well as the incumbent.
The news follows seven months after BBDO relinquished control of the KFC business in Singapore, where the account is now also handled by McCann. |

From the deli at the Cold Storage in Ikano Power Centre. Made roast chicken sandwiches for my guests during my housewarming recently. All of them attested to its yumminess...
Heck, wuz popping slices into my mouth as I was shredding it... One whole bird for only RM11.99!

It's not their fault that the powers that are beyond their control decided to move to Mccans-la.

Got rumors that they are looking at removing between 12 - 15 people to make up for the lost in the business. If you tap the calculator that's just about the right amount as they cannot pay this people with hotlink money. It will be very unfair to make the Hotlink people work for the KFC people. |

Two hungry agencies like McCann and BBDO on the prowl. Takut takut! They only need to bite into one big fat account so they don't have to suffer pitching much and exhausting their strength. If they're left too tired,
they can't fight off predation. Destruction will come
from the inside. |

Just like Saatchi and Bozell at one time. Jennifer can request for monetary help, but she has to win more accounts to sustain the agency before year end. The only thing is that she might want to jaga muka and not resort to such measure. It's her call. |

Unlikely, they would probably go after other fast food account,
like LB's Mc Donald's.
Or try to wrestle something out from the weaker contenders like Grey or Euro.
Or pry Toyota from Saatchi?
Anyone game to speculate or know of an account a bit shaky? Help the soon-to-be-homeless at BBDO! |

| Such showdown between creative powerhouses is rare. | June 10 2008, 11:28 AM |
You're right.
Chances are higher when they go after fast-food accounts
(Hey, Leo & Naga don't handle McDonald's anymore la. Another agency in Singapore got the business, I think).
Anyway, BBDO did a pretty decent job for KFC.
They should have no problem acquiring the account.
You also should know that the creatives at BBDO had
handled blue chip accounts before at their ex-agencies.
Risks are significantly higher if the contracts are expiring.
The suits at BBDO would probably be looking at other account categories missing from their portfolio.
You think they would go at the 'weaker' international agencies? They might, but they would run into contractual and internationally account alignment problems. They would
also have to endure a prolonged fight that might weaken their state further.
I think they might probably prey on local accounts.
To prevent money siphoning into America, they might start
up a 'local' outfit to handle Bumiputera accounts.
(Hey, if BBDO New York doesn't help them in this state,
why should they send money to America right?)
Of course, it's a fact that Jennifer's ears are planted to the ground. She would be the first to hear of account movements and would probably be the first to react.

Why agency waste so much time and money work and work on scam ads and if win spend more money for pr?
BBDO rank no 2 right? So how come after boast about that in newspaper then client KFC sack them?
Even Mc Cann not spared. Win KFC but going to lose Proton now. proton already ask 6 agencies to pitch.
So make us junior people so confused. Win aweard and do scam ads for what.
Why can the whole industry just do real work? And submit real work. And just be justice and award real work. Maybe only than client will able to judge agency based on award wins.
Now the way we do it, no point. clients dont endorse and KFc and Proton lost is proof.
very frustrating esp for us juniors. the seniors also cannot explain properly why. |

Screw the kancil and the other awards. None of the stupid Golden Kancil winners like Toyogo plastics won anything anywhere. BBDO can continue to waste more resources and get their ECD to scam more ads and lose his main account and then they can sack everyone below him. We just have to concentrate on pleasing our clients and do good solid real work. Clients already know BBDO & McCann scam culprits. KFC hated being presented with scam ads but they chose the wrong new agency. But one thing sure you're right is that awards mean zilch to clients. |

Truth Not Told
| Pantat Ayam kena sabo | June 13 2008, 3:24 PM |
McCann use dirty tactics to win kfc. They bad mouth ronald and team as bunch of scam artists who cannot do real work. Because they lost Digi only months ago. Reason is also Digi clients found out their McCann teams to busy scamming and the real work dont work. so sack them. Seems like clients are getting more and more fed up with scams and awards. This trend will grow like wild bushwire. Hopefully, more and more agencies will lose big clients and agencies will learn their lesson and bertaubat. Maybe this is a good thing for the industry. |

McCann got different teams handling real work and initiative work.
BBDO is rumoured to do scams only on Saturdays. Minimum 20 at least and must be of good quality or Ronald will hit the roof.
JWT is worse still. It is rumoured to do scams after office hours till midnight. Everyday.

| Proton Pitch news - BBDO not in the game | June 16 2008, 7:50 PM |
The global advertising review for Malaysian national carmaker Proton has been hit by two agency withdrawals, with Black Pencil and Ogilvy & Mather both pulling out.
Black Pencil, Leo Burnett's sister agency, cited conflict with Burnett's regionally aligned client General Motors as its reason to withdraw, while Ogilvy could not meet the tight pitch deadlines.
Agencies were given three weeks to prepare for a pitch that covers the Middle East, Thailand, India and Indonesia as well as Proton's home market.
According to a source, the "tough brief" involves looking at ways to export the struggling brand globally.
M&C Saatchi, incumbent McCann Erickson, JWT and TBWA-ISC\Malaysia remain in contention.
Proton faces a tough future in Malaysia in the face of rising fuel prices and intense competition from foreign imports, particularly from Japan. |

In that lion's den, there are many super creatives.
I suppose only superstars will be hired. People like Kien Hoe (Kit's brother)and those who win gold after gold every year.
Surely they are not looking for bread-and-butter creatives?
I mean, why would they? Even superstars outside would willingly do bread-and-butter accounts just so they can get into Leo! |

| Re: BBDO and KFC part company in Malaysia after 19 years | June 26 2008, 12:00 AM |
Stop blowing smoke up Leo Burnetts arse. The agency has done nothing for years. Except one ad that happened to strike a cord. It's about time. That ad was done by Yasmin. And she has essentially been writing the same ad for years. Finally she got it right.
Other creatives there don't do shit except waste away. When was the last time you heard about any of them doing anything. The mark of a great agency is an agency where everyone wins. Not just 1 team or 1 person.
Agencies like Saatchi, JWT, McCanns have blown Burnetts out the water long ago. And keep doing it. |

Hmm...let's take a break from all those porn scandals

We should be supporting him!
Maybe we can start a forum for him.
Let's discuss his best short-films.
What's your favourite?
Alternatively, we can discuss famous
award-winning siblings in Malaysian ad industry.

There are many others!
Since this is the new Scamshome,

Let's limit the discussion to their career.
I know some of you may be tempted to go through
their trash, but honey, it's not dignified.
Forget about what their ex-girlfriends say
about their performances in bed. We're only
interested in their performances on award nights!
