So many conflicting stories, I'm sure you've heard them all.


On one end, they say Adrian has pulled out.
On the other end, they say he is pissed the judges
aren't qualified to judge the work of Lion winners.
Saatchi & Saatchi isn't represented on the Kancil jury board, but his 'enemies' are (Most notably those from NagaDDB, to name but a few).

Edwin has a long-standing disagreement with the 4A's.
We don't know what it is. Word on the street is that he might send a few pieces of work like last year.

As for Ronald and Mun, everyone knows BBDO is strapped for cash. There just isn't enough money to send all the work
when they know they have to enter international award shows too.

To them, it is a waste of money BUT Jennifer will send some work on account that she is part of the 4A's. Just Ronald's work, they say. "It's going to be his year," Mun has been quoted to say to Ronald.

Don't kill the messenger from the streets ah. I only report what I heard. True or not, who knows?

He puts everyone but the kitchen sink in the jury.
That means everyone will have to enter whether they like it or not, no?

That should kind of compensate it, right?

So many judges, so many personal agendas. It's going to be an interesting show...

I wonder who will? It would be a very interesting show indeed, this year.

it's obvious from all the pull outs that the kancil awards has no credibility. in good times people send entries by the truckloads and it's politically motivated anyway. in bad times, they reserve the scams for the bigger names, that's obvious. why have the kancil awards anyway then?
bbdo and s&s have all their best brains move out to naga, mccanns so they too are faced with less scams, doubt mun/ron can match the best scam of all time, the jeep ads!

I heard from a colleague that Adoi rescinded some sms it sent to subscribers. Apparently, it announced the two biggie agencies pulling out from the Kancil Award Show
and that Dato Vincent declaring he stands by his "Don't join, fuck you all" principles. Such drama! I love it!

Oi all, yer lads don't 'ave ter worry about JWT not joinin'. Edwin's boss, Tay Guan Hin sits on the jury panel. This automatically means JWT will submit its work.

ron out, Miller out so what? tis way we get fairer judging mah. Good mix of young n old ECDs. Campaign brief ranking is not a true of ECDs anyway. The winners are the copi and ADs. All this F###ing ECDs just piggy back on the us poor creative teams. Almost all have ECDs claim themselves as art directors and copiliters on the ranking la... ppl wake up. I think Ron and miller jus making a cock of themselves. Most ECDs of the past Kancils joint up to judge without making a drama for 4as. Ron u were chairman last year and u took the easyt way of getting judges ( campaign brief ranking). Sp I think u made the right decision.

They have officially announced in the Star today that they will withdraw from the Kancil Awards Show. This move will make the results inconclusive!

They're pretty much worthless pieces of scam ads anyway. Created just to win metals without any real relevance to this business of advertising.

Saatchi and BBDO not participating...? I don't think we'd miss any good stuff... unless you consider winning on 'pretend ads' as a way of lifting advertising standards.

I heard the most ridiculous thing from a friend today.
She said there were people out there trying to drive a wedge between BBDO and Saatchi & Saatchi so they can be persuaded to join the Kancil Awards Show (read: divide and conquer). How? By bringing up a sore point "Agency of The Year" fiasco, ha ha ha...

While I can't confirm this rumour, she did tell me TBWA is undergoing a VSS exercise. I did call up friends from the agency and they said "yes, it's true". They will be downsized by 20%. This will start in October!

i read with disbelief that the 4as now wants to have a sit down with both agencies to 'iron out their differences'!whiskey tango foxtrot!
the only clear reason they boycott is becos they know that the scams that they have been doing will get thrown out!
bring back some dignity and integrity to the kancils i say!

Some names there are equally scammish/raised-on-scam ECD's. Ex-O&M,ex-TedBates... who are we trying to kid here. The only difference is, their scams haven't won (read: ECD's who can't even win on scams = creative losers).

So, will the elimination of the King Of Scam really eliminate the irrelevance of creativity in malaysian advertising? With the current crop of scamming ECD's in this years list, it will be interesting to watch.

As far as I can see, it's still a scamfested list of judges.

But I suppose it's a start...?

The same Creative Director did ads for PageOne Bookshop (moving announcement), Café Citron and would you believe it a Translation House! (Infoniage)

And when that person moved to FCB he continued to scam.
With work for a Music School (Technics Music Academy), National Panasonic and Ziplock.

All these ads that were mention won in the past Kancils. (Didnt win anywhere else)
Who knows about all the others that didnt win? Im sure there were plenty.

They also need a promotion or a better job.

It's tough yes! But look at "The Best Job In The World" and "Banner Concerts". Fresh thinking and real! So's "Tan Hon Ming in Love".

The woman who showed us that real work can be done in Malaysia is now six feet underground. BUT her legacy isn't dead!!!

This year, we honour her vision. This year, we honour her honesty.

If she means anything to you at all, accept 4A's invitation and have the talk.

But we can manage scams properly. Award real work that's really good (otherwise you give real work a bad name).
Good scams can take the silver and below. We tighten the standards gradually every year until everyone is weaned off scams.

Don't antagonise the scammers any more. We need their support. It's our duty to encourage them to do real work.
The last thing we want is for the industry to split into two - and that they create another local awards show!

If you want Kancil Awards Show to go regional, we need everyone's support.

A good move to reduce scams, but agree it will take time and everyone's effort.

Yep agree that everyone has scammed coz it was fun for a while but some have stopped coz they realiose it's just a dumb waste of time.

yup, last few yr they win pepsi longest dribble (real event and got msian record), olympus washing machine (client in the demo), mini hercules, kfc zinger max, help wheelchair (ham even called the boss of help after d grand prix last yr). that more real work than many ofis in last 10 yrs. at least they din win for penline (stationery shop by mccann) and cobra alarm system . and they dont use ms. msia girls to entertain their clients during xmas party like datuk botak.

my points is they do real work to win more than other agency, like mini print, outdoor & online, olympus swimming pool, hotlink tvc & online..... if u dun know all, pls search last year kancil.

lets face it, everyone scams, been happening since the ice age. yes some real work happens, rarely. have you sen the rubbish in the papers? and the tvcs....? how to submit those la.

it's all a game, each year, one agency wins la,eg jwt won big for the tv9 rocket and nothing else since.

all the local judges want a chance for their agency to win also. it's been awhile since sp lee won big, maybe his number is up this year?

so, bersopan sikit don't be greedy...line up bbdo/saatchi...yur turn will come...say in 5 years time?

In an amazing feat of magical fortune telling, several very senior members of Grey have been telling all who will listen that they have at least 10 metals already in the bag! Perhaps the Large Hadron Collider under Wisma Genting has been smashing protons into a crystal ball or the senior members have been at the crystal meth or the judging has already been done in true Malaysian elections style. Anyone else heard of other "sure win!" declarations?
