I am planning on riding my bike from Wisconsin to Florida sometime next after May 2010. I am wondering if anyone knows the rules of riding bicycles on the noninterstate highways south of WI. I do know in WI it is against the law to ride on the main highways if not on a motorcycle or other type of cycle not able to go at least 65 mph and I know I cannot pedal that fast.
I got some maps coming that show riding from some of the states I will be going through. I will be camping along this trip as I am a great fan of the wonderful outdoors. I also will be using a kid hauler for my gear so any ideas on what I should and shouldn't bring would be helpful.I do know I am taking at least 3 fully stocked first aid kits and my cellphone and some tools to work on my bike if it were to break down thanks for the heads up Coloradoguy. I am also bringing some cold weather and warm weather clothing and of course my camping gear. I am also using a map from google. I got people that will be serving as contacts in each state so that I can call them when I cross the state line to their state so that they can contact my mother( who is the only person at this point in my family that knows I am planning this trip) and she can then let the rest of my friends who I will not be seeing or talking to for the time I am gone know I am ok. So far alot of the friends I will be seeing in each state want me to camp out in their back yards so that they can make sure I am ok. I am planning on doing this with diabetes and cancer. I want to prove to myself I am still a good distance rider as I rode for long distances when I lived in TN.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Please post the ideas here for me as I don't want the rest of my family finding out till i get back home which will also be on bicycle. I will be riding round trip on my road bike ( looks like a mountain bike).
