New to Cross Country

Okay, I've ridden thousands of miles over the past few years, and love riding when I can. My teenage daughter has suggested we set a goal of a Pacific to Atlantic ride, perhaps even next summer (being a teacher, this works for me).

Can a seasoned cyclist tell me: Where does one sleep? Are there really hotels every 80-150 miles apart, even in the Rockies? Or am I missing something?
