Hi everyone, I'm a college student interesting in cycling across the country over this summer. The thing is, though, I have never biked over 10 miles, and I don't even own a road bike yet (just a plain old mountain bike). If this dream of mine to cycle across the country gets ignited though, I'm sure I'll have the financial means and the drive to train for this journey.

That being said, how feasible is it for someone like me, whom I consider pretty fit and athletic, to cycle across the country (probably from NYC to San Diego) in 40 days? I wish I had more time, but unfortunately I don't. Would you guys encourage me to go for it, or put some cycling time under my belt and go for it next summer in 2014? Or perhaps I can do something shorter, like cycling from NYC to Florida?

Thanks for all of your thoughts and wisdom.

Dan
