I am planning a cross-country bike trip with my friend Hannah this summer. We have been talking about the idea for a while and are now finally committed and getting down to the nitty-gritty with planning.
Ride theme: Exploring how bicycles can benefit the world. We will be doing a media tour to raise support and awareness for cycling in general, and possibly to raise money for sending bikes to Africa.
We are both mid-twenties, and don't have almost any experience with touring or PR! I know it sounds crazy, but we are looking for other ladies to join us, so the media hook will be something like, "If 4 wimpy girls can cycle across america... maybe you can ride to work!" (still working on that one!)
We are looking for 1-2 girls to join us for the ride, no age preference, just looking for enthusiasm and reliability! We are still in the planning stages, so looking for someone to join NOW so you can make your mark on this trip! We are planning to meet with newspaper, radio, and tv crews, so you must be comfortable with that, and also share our enthusiasm for environmental and humanitarian aid.
Thinking about Seattle > Boston, 3 months, this summer, still flexible at this point, but not much longer. We will be doing lots of prep-work for the ride including PR/Marketing, so ability to help with that stuff would be great. Also planning a weekend practice run in May, somewhere in the north-east, so it would be great if you could attend that as well.
We are definitely open to touring with guys... the original plan included my cousin, creighton, but he couldn't do it. We simply thought it would be fun and crazy for it to be all girls... we are surely open to other possibilities!
Also we plan to do this on the cheap! Stealth camping and couchsurfing, with zero to minimal motel usage. If interested, reply to this post or email me at c.d.depasquale@gmail.com.
I just read your post and I was just wondering how your plans are coming along? When were you planning on commencing your transamerican cycling journey...and which route were you intending to utilize. I am most interested and look forward to hearing from you.
