I have booked my flights and i arrive in San Dieago on 2/05/09, Hopefully i will start my ride on 2/05/09. I am trying to do the same route as Steve "colarado Guy" I am a police officer in Kent in England. I was wondering if anyone is doing the ride at the same time maybe hook up for a days ride or just a coffee. Steve read your diary i am a little worried in regards to the lonliness i may encounter any tips on over comming these feelings. Also i am on a tight budget was there scope for camping on the route most nights. Any advice would be appreciated.

Since we are doing much of the same, no motels if we can manage it, i found google-maps and gocampingamerica.com extremely helpful.
in google-maps just pick a town around which you want to look, put in the name and in the 'search nearby' field write 'camping'. it will generally come up with a bunch of campsites even when there are no convenient state parks nearby :)

I'm extremely nervous as well, especially considering we only have a month left until start date... but excited, too. good luck!!!
