Camping everywhere possible?

I want to ride XC this summer, but I DON'T want to spend many nights in motels. Looking for cheap options. How can I find free camping? Is it worth it to stay at RV parks? Showers would be lovely, but daily is not required.

Inputs please!
Thanks!

City Parks

Hi,
I've been reading about a lot of people who camp free in city parks along the way, saving a bundle. You just have to go to the police station first and ask/tell. That's part of my money saving plan anyway.
Cheers
Hans

there is a great social networking website www.couchsurfing.com I wont really explain it here you should just check out the site but that is how I plan on finding lodging. it is more or less free houses to sleep in everywhere in the world. you would have to more or less plan exactly where you are going to be day to day but yeah... check out the site it could deffinately help, especially if there are certain cities you know you want to get to.
