I've heard the southern routes during July & August are brutal heat and wind wise.

True, I think the best way to go right now is getting to the TransAmerica trail as fast as possible from California. That's what I'm planning at least...to the heat I say bring it on (while hiding behind my waterbottles) haha

Just saw yr message re cycling across the States. I am a 26 yr old male from London, and have 6 weeks off work from 15 August. V keen for a cycling adventure, a friend of mine cycled across the us a while ago and had an amazing time. Let me know yr plans and whether joining up might work. Cheers Marcus
