I was talking with a friend of mine and I playfully suggested biking across country upon graduating college (next May/June) and the more we talked about it the more I liked the idea. Relatively cheap, great excuse to get in amazing shape, etc. etc. etc.
2 important things though:
1) I don't know how to bike. I obviously can stay upright without training wheels but I know my posture, movement, etc are wrong for the types of distances I need to be doing. I need someone who can show me how to ride correctly in preparation for those long rides.
2) I need a partner to ride with during the next 10 months. The friend that I am going to actually do the ride with is moving to the midwest for more school so the best we can do is tele-train by sharing workouts and whatnot.
I'm in fairly ok shape because I play lacrosse but summer is always my off time. So I would have to start off fairly slow but could add distance to rides quickly.
If anyone here thinks it would be fun/interesting to take on a protege, please let me know!
Thanks in advance for any help or words of encouragement at all.

I am going to be in New York (manhattan) next week. I saw your post and have biked across the u.s. before and am in the begining stages of planning my new trip which will take place in April 2010. if you want to meet up I am sure I could give you alot of insight. if you want to make plans give me a call (858)729-3991 or email me. if we can meet up we could just talk on the phone? let me know.
My advice is too ride with some one who has gone cross country before. You're going to need that support system. I haven't been able to go all the way yet, but I have gone from del mar to normal, illinois. I will make it cross country some day.
