The difference is that evolution provides a MECHANISM for an animal behaviour pattern.
The lion's behaviour is not in the interest of its group or its species. It is counter-intuitive that murdering their young has value or is "good". So why do they do it? To say "well they were designed that way" isn't an informative answer.
The problem with ID as an "explanation" is it has no limits - there's no way to test and disprove it as a theory. Also it provides no mechanism. The mechanism is the important thing and as yet, evolution by natural selection is the only successful theory we have.
