GERARD:
"I sense you doubt that 6,000 years or so has past since creation..."

I sense you have not read your own post properly??
Were you aware that it implies there is no discrepancy between scripture and an old Earth?

GERARD:
"...what makes you doubt this?"

A few things: geology, plate tectonics, radiometric dating, stratigraphy, astronomy, cosmology, helioseismology, palaeontology, biochemistry, genetics, and of course evolution.

GERARD:
"however as scripture interprets itself...many times in scripture a day is ...a day......or can even be an hour....or a year as in Daniel...but also has been shown to be 1,000 years...as in the day of the Lord...."

Two questions:

- If the Bible interprets itself then why are articles, such as the ones you post, refering to theological debates about the very meaning of scriptural passages?

- Do you believe that the Bible is SPECIFICALLY delineating the "day of the Lord" as being equivalent to a thousand years? Or rather, is it an allegorical reference to the unquantifiable measurement of time from the perspective of an immortal being compared to mortal perceptions?

GERARD:
"the 7,000 year plan of God makes total sense in the story of Genesis and if one goes through the ages and dates of the Bible patriarchs....alost 6,000 years (6 days) of man's existence on this earth has gone by....with the last day...the 1,000 millenium rest day to come very soon..."

Yes that's what Usher argued. However such an estimation runs contrary to verifiable scientific evidence.
Nor do all Christians agree with your contention - most Christians believe in an Old Earth and see no contradiction between an allegorical Bible and Science.

GERARD:
"What you may believe and cling to would be better shown with scripture and support therein."

So in other words if observed facts about nature are in direct contravention with your supposedly literalist interpretation of scripture, then the facts must be wrong??

As I mentioned in my reply to your first post, St. Augustine spoke about this very topic and cautioned Christians to beware using scripture in support of topics which the Bible was never meant to address - like whether insects are animals or have four legs.

I would like you to answer a question:

Why is your faith dependant on a literal 6-day creation and a 6,000 year old Earth?

Cheers
