Your own actions are not a credit to whatever belief you have,
even if your were an atheist. Bigotry is still bigotry. And calling
names and making fun of beliefs does not add anything to
conversation. But then I feel the same at attempts to convert me
either.
My only problem is when any religion claims it's holy book is God's word,
any of god or goddess for that matter. So if, as I suspect, all holy books are
written by man then we may have some men in the past trying to sell
their personal ideas as being God's.
That is a personal belief so quoting from any holy text means little to me
because I have no reason to believe that any holy books is other than the
creation of men. It is not uncommon for literate men to try to control
illiterate people by claiming special knowledge of any god/dess.
Religious belief is another case of personal opinion. I doubt it is a belief
that is changeable unless it is already not strong or already being questioned
by the person.
I don't trust people who can be converted by others. It strikes me they are
easily led. Now a change of belief that comes though the person's own search
is often quite another matter because it started from the inside. Beliefs and
opinion are strongest that develop from the inside rather than are sold from
the outside.
But despite my disagreements with a great many religions I see no point to
attacking someone's beliefs or calling them names. It simply serves no useful purpose beyond creating unnecessary conflict.
