Well you have to understand what a theory is in the first place.
In science a hypothesis graduates to a theory when the idea has been tested and verified. Other examples include the Germ THEORY of Disease, the THEORY that matter is composed of atoms, and the THEORY of gravity.
Also, Im surprised as a Rev. that you still question evolution. Many religious denominations long ago accepted evolution. Even the Pope John Paul II once said "the evidence is in favor of evolution".
Im an atheist but it seems to me that if God is all powerful then he can do anything. Surely, it is not impossible for god to have created a universe where he knew evolution would happen. Are you saying this is impossible for god?
If I were a Rev. I would look at science as a way of investigating Gods Work. Not as a threat or as an attack on religion.
I also think that as a Rev. you have a responsibility. People in your congregation look up to you!!
By teaching them to fear evolution, rather then looking at it as part of Gods Work, you set up a situation that can only lead to animosity.
We could have long ago ALL accepted evolution, and we would not have this animosity. You could then spend your time concentrating on more important matters, such as your personal relationship with God.
Nobody cares anymore that the earth is not flat. It is no longer an issue, and yet it was at one time. People believed the Bible teaches the earth is flat, and if it is round then this is an attack on religion and the Bible.
I know Im wasting my time. But if the Pope can accept evolution, surely this at least shows there are religious people who see no problem with evolution.
You create an area of conflict that is sadly not even necessary.
