McBride's in Rutland, VT

Hello -

I'm looking for decendents of Mary McBride who lived in Rutland, VT from when she was born around 1903 until the mid to late 1920's and then might have moved to New York. Her parents were William and Jennie. Her brothers and sisters were Agnes, Catherine, Anna May, Raphaela, Gertrude, Francis and William. I believe Mary's brother William married a Mollie and that he worked at the Rutland Hospital. Quite a bit of the family continued to lived in Rutland up until at the least the 1960's.

I'm looking for relatives of Mary because there might be a connection with my mother who was born in the late 20's in Albany, New York. It's a loose connection at this point.

Any links to this family would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mike Sadowski

McBrides of Rutland

July 7 2006, 4:04 PM

I don't know that there is any connection to my family but my mother knew the McBrides and I have connected them to the McGuires in Rutland.
They lived on South Main St and the house belonged to Bartly McGuire which was passed down to the McBrides.
Barthlomoew McGuire married Bridget - not sure if her last name was McGuigen or McGinn. They had several children and she died. He then married Ann Winn, as a second marriage for both. She had been married to Michael McLaughlin and had children with him. After Bartly and Ann married they also had children. I have the family on my computer and will send it to you if you are interested.
Neil McBride was killed in the north quarry of Rutland Marble company, at West Rutland according to the Rutland Herald of Tuesday, Nov 7, 1876.
I have a copy of the article if you are interested.
There is/was also a stone in St Bridgets cemetery according to the 'West Rutland Cemetery Inscriptions of Rutland County Vermont' by Margaret Jenks.

They were also connected to the Lee and Hannon families.

I'm connected to the McLaughlin, McGuire and many other Irish names.

Hope this helps.
Rosemary

Neil McBride

June 14 2007, 9:46 PM

Hi Rosemary,

I am a great, great granddaughter of "Neil" (Cornelius!) McBride, who died in the Marble Quarry in Rutland. I have a copy of the article about his death in the quarry. Do you have information that connects to his parents and any siblings?

After Neil died, his wife (Susan McDevitt McBride) and four children moved to NYC. I have tracked them from 1880- 1930 census records.

I have visited Neil's grave at the cemetery, as it was located my my father's cousin, who has the family bible (started by Susan McDevitt McBride).

More on the McBrides

July 15 2006, 7:09 PM

To my knowledge there aren't any more of this family around Rutland.
William and Jennie McBride at least 8 children but 5 of the daughters never married, 1 married Ray Hannon but their son died young - in his 20's I believe. When their son William died it didn't list any survivors.
They are all buried in Calvary cemetery in Rutland.

The newspaper information shows connections to many of the local families that came to his funeral from other places.

Taken form the Rutland Herald of Saturday, November 14, 1925 - Page 7

Thanks for the information

August 7 2006, 6:31 PM

Hello Rosemary -

Just back from vacation. Thank you for the information - it's really interesting. What struck me was the the connection to Albany NY via Anna May in the Obituary of William Sr. and the general connection to the Upstate NY area.

I was wondering how I can obtain access to the Rutland Herald archives? It would be very helpful to find information on his wife Jennie, and the daughters Mary and Anna May. It's still a long shot but the connection to Albany, NY is interesting.

Do you know of anyone who would remember what the McBrides looked like? It really would not mean anything but I sent a picture of my Mother is there anyone there you could show it to to see if there is any resemblence to the McBrides of Rutland?

Thanks, Mike

Rutland Herald

Sorry I took so long to check back. I've been on vacation and then just busy catching up.

I have a cousin that lives next door to where the McBrides were and I think she would be able to identify a photo. She is in her 80s but still very sharp.

I research the Rutland Herald either at the Rutland historical society or the Library. I don't know if the Herald can be done with inter library loan or not. I'd be glad to look up anything I can in the oldl papers and send you what I have on the family.

I only recently started researching in Dorset & Manchester area and have been surprised at so many connections.

Do you know if Ann Bosten was a McBride. She is buried in St Jeromes.
I think she died about 2000 and if it is who I think it was - her son dated my daughter when they were in high school.

Rosemary
