I would have used some Teflon washers if I could have found some, but those steel ones were laying right there with a nice ID, so I used them. Since they are rubbing on plastic, I don't feel much drag.
Over travel does not seem to be much of a problem. With a rifle scope mounted, it can hit a dime at 10 yards just about every shot.
My daughter (has not fired anything in years) was able to hit a spoon target at 20 yards and never missed all three times she fired (I had to tell her to go back into the house and let the men shoot).

I don't recommend the pistol due to the trigger defects seen by many buyers (and me).
And it's not a good pistol for a kid, since there is a mouse-trap effect when you close it.
