I was finally allowed to shoot my new/ used, (I bought it used) tuned QB-78, after about about a week of rain. I put a Weaver T-10, Fine Crosshair, 10 power scope and rings on it, and out I went to the yard. I sighted it in at 10yds. and then wanted to see what it could do at 30 and 50yds.
After going through a number of different types of pellets(Beeman HP, JSB lites, FTS, Crosman Pointed, CPL's, CPH's) The gun showed repeatedly that it liked the CPL"s and the CPH's. The others did well( except the Crosman pointed, which were terrible) but the groups with the Crosman Premier pellets were smaller. As my chrony is on the fritz, and I'm waiting for my new one, I wasn't able to check the velocities of the pellets. All of my accuracy shooting was done from a portable bench rest, and the results are from 5, 5 shot groups.
30yds: 50yds:
BHP- 3/4" avg. 1 3/8" avg.
JSB- 1/2" avg. 7/8" avg.
FTS- 5/8" avg. 1 1/4" avg.
CPtd-1 1/2" avg. 4 inches! avg.
CPL- 1/4" avg. 5/8" avg.
CPH- 3/8" avg. 1/2" inch! avg.
Now, before anyone says I'm full of it, remember these were from a portable, yet heavy, bench rest. The QB was mounted in/ on sandbags and there was no wind to speak of. I don't want anyone to think that I'm saying that I did this offhand.
After looking at the results, its obvious that this gun can shoot! FYI, the previous owner told me(and then gave me the receipts) that the QB was bought from FunSupply, and that it was tuned by Mac-1 some years ago. It looks like Mac-1 does a darn good job, and it lasts! No other work has been done( repairs) to this gun, other than a bulk fill end cap being added, an adaptor that allows me to hang a 3.5oz tank at a rearward angle, a trigger job and polishing that elimated almost half of the sear engagemet allowing for a comfortable trigger tang position and 1 pound clean break.
The QB is sitting in a custom walnut TH stock with adj. butt pad and pistol grip stippling. It kinda looks like the stock on the Falcon guns,(I saw a pic.of one in AGI) but I'm not sure( maybe you guys can help me with this) who made it. This has turned out to be the best $175 I've ever spent!
Enjoy!
