Somtimes the gun will just not fire on a slow pull of the trigger.
The trigger on mine could slide left and right on it's pin. Looking at that allen set screw (in the trigger), it looks like that screw is what pushes on that little sear bar right above it and fires the gun.
If the trigger is off to one side a little, the set screw will miss the sear bar and slip in beside it. I did a long slow pull and it would not fire! Let go of the trigger and POW! Every time I pushed the trigger to the left a little before firing, it worked fine.
So to test my idea, I put two washers on the trigger pin. One on each side of the trigger to help keep it in the center. There is very little side-to-side movement of the trigger now. So far, it's working. I'll post again about the washer mod after a few 100 shots w/o a problem.

Looks like you nailed the problem. If I may suggest, without seeming like a know-it-all, you might want to try a couple of synthetic washers. You can pick them up at any hardware store, and they will reduce or eliminate any drag that the steel washers may add when coming in contact with the trigger tang(Blade). I add the synthetic washers whenever I can/ need to, and a little bit of lube on the sides, which may come in contact with the trigger tang. An overtravel set screw for the trigger tang will help also. I hope my suggestions help.
Is that the new P-3 copy? I haven't seen one yet, and they don't have them at my local Wally World yet. What do you think of it so far? I'm thinking about getting a couple for a little bit of back yard plinking with my daughter.
I would have used some Teflon washers if I could have found some, but those steel ones were laying right there with a nice ID, so I used them. Since they are rubbing on plastic, I don't feel much drag. Over travel does not seem to be much of a problem. With a rifle scope mounted, it can hit a dime at 10 yards just about every shot. My daughter (has not fired anything in years) was able to hit a spoon target at 20 yards and never missed all three times she fired (I had to tell her to go back into the house and let the men shoot).
Yeah, I installed stainless steel washers and used a little...

moly in that area and other points of friction nearby. The 2004 was smooth before, but smoother now and zero problems with trigger shifting off the internal sear. Blew a whole morning "testing" my fix!
Just like to add an observation that the pin for the hammer release on my 2004 tended to work its way out of the cocking arm slowly. Only thing I could figure was that each closing of the cocking arm was rotating the pin so I just put a tiny dab of moly on where the hammer release and pin meet - no problems now so far.
I've tested the heck out of the washer mod
and today, I got another failure.
I fired the gun about 20 times with no problem
tonight, and then did a long slow trigger put.
After about 15 seconds, I could feel the trigger
go right past the normal 'fire' zone. It wanted to
go all the way back to the stop.
I pointed at the target and let the trigger out, and it fired.
Now, I'm not sure I'm on the right track.
Oh well, back to the drawing bench.
