Hi guys!

I need some pro advise on refinishing my QB's stock. BTW, I found out with some searching that my stock was made by a guy named Mike Abernethy. He does really good work!

Ok, my question: The previous owner stippled the pistol grip and cut a boarder around it, using a dremel tool for both proceedures. The stippling isn't bad, and the boarder is so-so, but they both could be much better. How can I correct these problems? I finished stocks before, so I have some expierence, but I've never had to correct anything like this.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kai

If it's not too deep.....

...you can completely remove it. Just sand it out. If I remember right, those stocks are kind of thick in the wrist anyway (?). If you have smaller hands it might fit you better to remove some material.

I've seen bad checkering removed from a good stock in order to save it. I've never done it myself but wouldn't hesitate to do so if there is enough wood there.

A single line checkering tool will work, as will a narrow riffler. Try Brownels. One of those electric engravers (vibrating type)will stiple some woods, dull the tip a bit and try on a scrap.
