Define breaking the dog

by gary

DO you mean training the dog, if so there are a few ways to go about it. The first thing i do is get the pup aquainted with the animal inwitch ill be training it for. I capture a few in live traps, and let them investigate them. after that its up to you, you can by sents and use drags. Or just hunt the dog with a finished dog.

ten weeks old is too young to worry about breaking a pup. you will do more harm than good. let him/her be a pup for a while longer. good luck and remember to hunt walkers anything else would be uncivilized.

Hunting w/other dogs...Problem!!!

by

Hello all, I have a question about my 4 month old English hound.

The pup will strike track and is treeing on his own, but won't hunt with other dogs. When other dogs are present he runs around and locates but will not tree.
I've been using live trap for training and have shot numerous coons down to him. The dog trees everynight on a one on one basis and started this at only 2 mos of age. The dog hates coon and is amazing me for a 4 monther. He is going to be quite the stay put tree dog, if I could only get him to hunt with other dogs.

Any suggestions on how to handle this would be appreciated.

Tom

P.S. Also if there is anyone wanting a hunting partner in Michigan (northern or southern) I live in lower SE Michigan near the ohio border. But travel northern Michigan and also Northern Ohio frequently. Any interest email me at babybojangle@netzero.net

yeah

by

i think u r ful of shit to have a dog treeing at 4 month u would have to have started hunting it as soon asit poped out it takes months of training to start a dog treeing and shooting a coon out on a young pup would ruin it cause a coon can easily tear a young pup all 2 hell

Black and Tan question

by

A friend of mine has a female walker and a male black and tan, the walker caught on to coon huntin very quickly, which i have heard is common for female walkers. But the Black and Tan did not, and he is gettin very frustrated with him, he is about a year old, last night we took him out and he barked a few times at a treed coon and tracked a scent trail we had placed, but it was a simple trail. Never the less we were encouraged. My question is, does it take two years for most male black and Tans to catch on, or is their something wrong with him, is it common for it to take this long, if not two years, than how long? thank you for your time, i really need an answer to this. You can E-Mail me at REDNEK86@aol.com. Thanx everyone, happy huntin.

How much has he been hunted

by john

Most dogs iv had, whether it be walker, english, blue tic, black and tan iv had some of them all. Took to it fairly well. Id say though most dogs should have the jist of things around a year old, after that there harder to train. The most important aspect iv found is time hunted.

I am a Government trapper and have coon hunted all my life. I followed your grandads ads for years. I am not sure if it was him or not ,but in Oklahoma I met a man I believe to be him. He was a rather large man that hunted Blue ticks he never knew a stranger and I was very impressed with how nice he was to us.

If you want to get a good, and very reliable light get a Nite Lite. I have a Hot Light Pro It is an awsome light.
I Want to sell it so if you would be interested give me a call at: 573-384-5342 it is 1 1/2 old but has very well been taken care of. It is a 6 volt but looks like a 12. I would probably let it go for $95.00.

What do you do with the critters once you have them?

by

My grandfather and several generations of men before him were all coon hunters. I was wondering what do you (or did they) do with the critters once they had them? The only thing that comes to mind are those old "Davey Crocket" hats.
thanks for any input,
