Looking for good blood and paper, Female waker. I have older dog male would like a pup or two out of him before its to late. I live in South Central Iowa
I want an old time redtick, not an english coonhound. The type of dog I am talking about looks like, is built like, a blue tick but is red instead of blue.
I am 16. I bought a walker dog because my grandpa and i were going to train it but he just past away and I have no clue on how to train a coon dog or how to coon hunt I want to break this dog bad please help guide me threw this thank you.
DO you mean training the dog, if so there are a few ways to go about it. The first thing i do is get the pup aquainted with the animal inwitch ill be training it for. I capture a few in live traps, and let them investigate them. after that its up to you, you can by sents and use drags. Or just hunt the dog with a finished dog.
ten weeks old is too young to worry about breaking a pup. you will do more harm than good. let him/her be a pup for a while longer. good luck and remember to hunt walkers anything else would be uncivilized.
Hello all, I have a question about my 4 month old English hound.
The pup will strike track and is treeing on his own, but won't hunt with other dogs. When other dogs are present he runs around and locates but will not tree.
I've been using live trap for training and have shot numerous coons down to him. The dog trees everynight on a one on one basis and started this at only 2 mos of age. The dog hates coon and is amazing me for a 4 monther. He is going to be quite the stay put tree dog, if I could only get him to hunt with other dogs.
Any suggestions on how to handle this would be appreciated.
Tom
P.S. Also if there is anyone wanting a hunting partner in Michigan (northern or southern) I live in lower SE Michigan near the ohio border. But travel northern Michigan and also Northern Ohio frequently. Any interest email me at babybojangle@netzero.net
i think u r ful of shit to have a dog treeing at 4 month u would have to have started hunting it as soon asit poped out it takes months of training to start a dog treeing and shooting a coon out on a young pup would ruin it cause a coon can easily tear a young pup all 2 hell
Are walkers, Blue ticks and Black and Tans the only dogs used to coon hunt ?
by
I used to coon hunt with my dad as a kid doesn't seem like many peope do it anymore. I 'm really wanting to get back in to it now that Im older.I don't have a dog yet hoping to research a little more before i get in to deep.
Thanks, From Tennessee
Hey there is a little place called hermitige i live there and they use walkers blues and black and tan doges but we use white doges fiest they are as good as a walker and the reast have a nice day
no red bone coonhounds are used too. but most people hunt walkers and english dogs cause they r said to be the easiest to train. most people i know including myself like to hun english dogs( blue ticks and red ticks)
wicks frog legs are snake proof Iknow from first hand exp. got hit by a five foot rattler and he did not get through them. Good luck and remember to hunt walkers because anything else would be uncivilized.
try finding them at the grand american the best ones in my opinoin are dans or you should try cabelas neopream stockin foot waders and wear some coverwrales over them
A friend of mine has a female walker and a male black and tan, the walker caught on to coon huntin very quickly, which i have heard is common for female walkers. But the Black and Tan did not, and he is gettin very frustrated with him, he is about a year old, last night we took him out and he barked a few times at a treed coon and tracked a scent trail we had placed, but it was a simple trail. Never the less we were encouraged. My question is, does it take two years for most male black and Tans to catch on, or is their something wrong with him, is it common for it to take this long, if not two years, than how long? thank you for your time, i really need an answer to this. You can E-Mail me at REDNEK86@aol.com. Thanx everyone, happy huntin.
Most dogs iv had, whether it be walker, english, blue tic, black and tan iv had some of them all. Took to it fairly well. Id say though most dogs should have the jist of things around a year old, after that there harder to train. The most important aspect iv found is time hunted.
Bad experiences with dogs trained with squirl hides
by gary
Six or seven years ago i bought a rather expensive blue tic dog. that had been trained some with squirls. The dog was great for coon, lol But he was also great to tree a squirls nest every once in a while.
Does anyone know where you can purchase the carbon that goes in the old carbon lights the coonhunters used to use? Would appreciate any information. Thanks
thats is called carbide check old countrey stores. i have a old carbide theres a old store that sells it here in IND.THAT WILL MAKE OLD COON LOOK.MOST OF THE TIME
Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure how to spell the carbide, had a friend that was trying to find some, but was unable to find any around here. I live in Southeast, Mo. And the Walmart store has run all the little country store out of business around here.
there is a place in chattanooga tennessee that I think still even caries the lights and I'm sure the carry the carbon. They carry wheat lights and all kinds of stuff like this is it has to do with mines.
I have a Cur dog that needs training. I would like to get a started dog that trees by himself. To work with my dog. I have a rifle that i would like to trade for a dog, It is a Chinese SKS 7.62x39mm assault rifle. The rifle is fitted with a black Zyntel sniper stock, 40 round magazine, bipod, recoil compensator, and rifle scope. The rifle is in excellent condition. It is worth about $450.00. I live in Fayetteville North Carolina (910)423-0560
Hi, my name is Tom Sharp. My grandfarther was Charles Alexander. He devoted his whole life to coon hunting. Just wordering if any of you ever had the chance to hunt with him. Thanks
Tom ,
I am a Government trapper and have coon hunted all my life. I followed your grandads ads for years. I am not sure if it was him or not ,but in Oklahoma I met a man I believe to be him. He was a rather large man that hunted Blue ticks he never knew a stranger and I was very impressed with how nice he was to us.
If you want to get a good, and very reliable light get a Nite Lite. I have a Hot Light Pro It is an awsome light.
I Want to sell it so if you would be interested give me a call at: 573-384-5342 it is 1 1/2 old but has very well been taken care of. It is a 6 volt but looks like a 12. I would probably let it go for $95.00.
I don't like nite lite but your entitled to your opinion

iv had nite lights, wick lights, im curently useing a bright eyes. In my opinion the smaller night lights arnt bright enough and don't light long enough.
What do you do with the critters once you have them?
by
My grandfather and several generations of men before him were all coon hunters. I was wondering what do you (or did they) do with the critters once they had them? The only thing that comes to mind are those old "Davey Crocket" hats.
thanks for any input,
Dawn
