I have a question, that probably can't be answered but I think opinions would be neat. For what possible reasons could Ratigan have gone bad? Why does he dislike rats?

On the GMD DVD, they do question in the extras, why he went bad, and it made me real curious.

Are there any opinions?

That was the original intent of the movie makers. They pretty much left the background on Ratigan (as well as the rest of the characters) up to interpretation. I have a GMD Press Kit (although it's the 1992 re-printed version rather than the original 1986 one) that tells a bit about the movie.
