Hay guys....this our thread now. We can type watever we want, and only people who are going to be NICE towards River. JiggyJam,Anonymous and people who were making up rubbish like those two are not permitted to talk in this post we have because we only want positives, not rubbish like he was a junkie and stuff! We dont wanna see that stuff! So pease keep out if ur gunna say that stuff!
Anyway, Icu i cudnt find anything about the funeral home that has anything to do with that guy that took the pic, or anything else that was interesting or we needed to know. sorry! u try and have a search!

Ggggrrrrr! Now Ally, I had a nice quaint post all ready to be submitted, but could I do it? Noooooooo. Because our little air for brains calico thinks she's a lioness in the Safari beast of a kitten kitten decided to play attack the antelope with the keyboard and all was lost. Nifty. Anyway ....
I went to "Rios Attic" at River-Phoenix.org and found the friends link that you talked about. I'm glad to know Drake has always been a good friend to them. But I'm still not convinced that someone actually broke into the funeral home. Here's my reasoning. The photo, regardless of who captured it, is out there for public record and protected by the first ammendment and the reporter (which I think stinks in some cases - but I digress) No big secret there. The coroners report, signed by an elected official (the coroner him/herself) also public record - so no denying what happened in a drug overdose, and copies of his death certificate are out there for the taking (or purchasing - YOUR tax dollars at work doncha know).
But it makes no sense at all, for the accusation/statement of someone stealing into the funeral home after hours, "desecrating" the body of Phoenix (which would be the official charge), photographing it and selling it to a tabloid. There is no official public record whatsoever by a sheriff's dept. or police that this has occured. And I assure you, if there were a complaint made by the Funeral home, well within their right to file the complaint regardless of a confidentiality agreement by the deceased family, that piece of paper would be flying around the web as we speak. It's public record to file a complaint whether you press charges or not, and free for the taking thanks to our tax dollars. Somethings just plain fishy there.
Another disturbing quote from the book goes like this:
"John Phoenix said that he did initially consider turning in the musician who had given River the deadly speedball, but decided against it. 'What purpose would it serve?' he said, nine months after his sons death, as reported in the British newspaper "Today". "
What purpose would it serve? How about getting the loser drug supplier behind bars for a while, and let him/her give up some sources, hmmm? That alone could serve as a purpose of saving a few more lives, but perhaps living the veggie lifestyle on a commune makes him a little more tolerant of the death and mayhem that comes from drugs.
Sorry Phoenix family, but not me. Not my kids - not ever.

Ooooo yeah, I think JiggyJam brought some excellent points to this board. Perhaps not what we all WANT to hear, but it is REAL nonetheless. Rivers death was extremely tragic.Watching "The Thing Called Love" is painful to see. Knowledge IS power guys (yeah, I know, I sound like a PBS commentater ), but it is the truth. Recognizing where people can go wrong gives us the opportunity to take a different path in life for the better. I think if River could speak for himself now - he'd probably say "Don't make the same mistakes I did. Be yourself. Don't get caught up in an image machine that is impossible to keep up with". Something along those lines I would think.

and again u make an excellent point. i dont intend to start drugs, seeing as im so young i cu take em any day, but ur right he wud say dont make the mistake i made. And as for jiggyjam, i really dont care about what he/she said, so im k\just gunna say good for U! and the whole(not that we wanna hear) was funny!

I have to admit...I hate when Shagg or Jiggly have a valid point to make. I think that other, more impressionable youth on here may think that one good point on their part lends creedence and validity to some of the complete drivel they dole out on a fairly regular basis.
Ally, thanks for starting the thread. The "others" (do I need to call them by name?) will be here soon enough. You can pretty much make book on that.
Since we are being all snug and comfy amongst ourselves, I thought it would be nice to share a little bit about myself as well as why I stop by the board. I would be thrilled to know more about you, my cohorts, as well!
I'm 31 years old, am married with kids, and have been a River fan since 1986. (I still have a book report I wrote about River in March 1987 (7th grade...yikes), and since he was a relative "newcomer" to the scene at the time, my only bibliography source was Bop! Magazine. I got a 100%. True story.)I am a non-smoking vegetarian who has very strong left AND right wing political beliefs. I'm a friendly, but fairly odd person. Let me qualify that statement...odd like not the mainstream, not odd like rub myself down with peanut butter and roll around in feathers and run singing through the streets odd.
I hope to hear more for you all. This place gives me a chnace to just be me. Not mommy, not wifey. Just Heather.

Okay, I'm chill. You guys have got some guts being able to admit your ages . Lets just say, I'm "thirtysomething". Two children who are the light of my life every single day. A husband who is a Sailor, and whom I love dearly. I've been working in law enforcemnt for 9 years. I live in Louiisiana, and if you haven't guessed it by now, I live near the Big Easy New Orleans. I got into law enforcement in my 20's after the murder of a close family friend.I'm happy in my marriage, so I'm not lookin' for love, I don't do webcams, but I will still not give out my real name or exact location for obvious reasons on the world wide web.
And ladies, let's ease up on the schools "enter" key on the p.c., k? Lots of double posts here - I'm gonna call you guys "lead finger" - kinda like we call the speeders on the highways "lead foot", get it? Get it? Oh pffff - nevermind. Hope this got you a good laugh in class )!

Nawlins, huh, ICQ? That's it....I'm coming for a visit..hahahahaha! Not much going on here in the huge metropolis of Wadsworth, Ohio (poulation under 18,000). Gotta go to a big city to get some kicks.....
Thirty-something....oh come now! That STILL makes you too young to be a huge fan of the prime-time show with the same name. Know what that means, hun? You're still young! (Which thereby makes me young, too, you'll note )
Glad to officially meet you all, and I look forward to hearing (and reading) more from you soon!

That would be "River Jude Bottom", until the name was changed during the "Children of God" commune to "River Jude Phoenix". This can be found in just about any book about River Phoenix. Can you read?
You know Anonymous, intelligence is free for the taking in this world, but it does requires effort. Good Luck .

If that saying holds true (and it's always held water in my life), me thinks there are some folk on this board who are going to have a pretty tough row to hoe, do ya feel me?
Time to ditch this thread, ladies. It's become infested.

Like a flower waiting to bloom, we knew we would be loosing him very soon.
In a way its good that he passed, but its our loss that it was so fast!
Hair so blonde, eyes so blue, so much love and a heart so true!
But Rio's gone now and we were all to late, and now there is no one else left to hate!
Took for granted by many more, with his heart left bruised and sore!]
He left us with his last goodbyes, and wiped away the tears from out eyes!
(c)....lol copyright, i wrrote that, i cant do the c in the circle thing

That is gooooood writing! Have you written this up and sent it to the family? You should do that! You may want to also see about submitting it to RiosAttic, River-Phoenix.org, and if you have a few extra bucks, how about submitting it to your cities newspaper, with a small pic of River? No, listen - I'm serious! The anniversary of his death is coming up in the next few days. The guy died of a drug overdose - and whatever way that message can be gotten out there so it can save somebody else is RIGHT ON !!!
Coming from - dare I say it - a kid , Ally - you've got IT !!! Words like this are strong, heartfelt, and does remind the reader of the sadness in his death. Keep going wirth this!

This is an open post for anyone out there who has given pros and cons to the "Photo Issue", but I'm sure some of the other "No Names" will chime in as well (yaaaaaaaawn.)
My husband and I talked about the legal aspects of the photo taking and it's release thereof, and this is what we came up with, so please bear with us ....
If you saw a 4-sale ad, or walked into an antique store, thrift store, or pawn shop, and you saw your relatives antique photos, jewelry, etc. for sale, and you KNOW that the item had been stolen from your own "property" (for lack of a better term), you would want this precious item back under your own roof wouldn't you agree?
Of course, but is the store just going to grab the item off of the shelf and hand it on over? Of course not. Your going to have to PROVE that they are in possesion of stolen property to begin with. And there is most definetly a way this could be done, and that is filing police report of the items stolen (or broken into and photographed) to begin with. A police report all by itself could clear up the resale of certain items in second hand wares because hardly any of them want to get into a battle with a stolen item or the illegal (breaking and entering) way it was obtained.
Now with that being said, I am curious if anyone from the Phoenix family or funeral home EVER filed a police report for the alleged break in of the funeral? I know they didn't want to press charges on the drug dealer who gave Phoenix the lethal dose. So does the same apply for the photo itself?
In other words "We didn't want to press charges on anyone who broke into the funeral home and took the photo of River in his coffin - but we want you to remove it from circulation nonetheless".
Thanks for any opinions and info.
