Yeh, every time I see the Stand By Me music video I cry!! Not because of the video because of what an incredible kid he was and the way his life ended by one small mistake.
"Stand By Me" reminds me of him, so does "If I had known" by Dana Lyons, "My Sweet Prince" by Placebo - and of course - "Chris Chambers" by the Stereophonics!!

I agree "Stand by me" reminds me of him. It's weird I'm a 36 male and his death hits me hard. My cousin died at 21 of drugs and he reminded me of him in a way. Very sad. It only takes that one time to overdose.

Beacause it's a sad song. Well to me it's a sad song . At school one day in my keyboard class (thank god I'm not in there anymore) the teacher played Hey Jude on the cd player and I slamed my head against the table and didn't do anything the whole time cuz I thought it was a sad song. Plus it reminds me of River. So that's all why it makes me cry . I know it's pretty pathetic.

For some reason, this song I liked when I was about 13 reminds me of him - I just heard it again recently. I guess it reminds me of him because he was so troubled and kept his pain to himself. (And no, I don't think of him in any kind of romantic way - that's not even what the song means to me.)

River has been a part of my life since 'the stand by me days',when I was 13 yrs old.I have followed his career up until his death in 93.so that is '8 or 9 yrs.
To say he was'nt 'a part of my life' ,he was for that amount of time,I mean poster's on my wall,watching inteviews on tv about him and having his movies to watch on my vcr all the time etc.
My admiration and love for him took up those 9 yrs of my spare time.(when i was'nt at school,
or out with friends and family etc)
so 'YES HE WAS A PART OF MY LIFE' for that amount of time.I know he was'nt in my life,like I knew him on a personal level,I knew him on a more spiritual one.,and yes he was very good looking,but i'm sure many young girls around the world do not want to put up a poster on their bedroom wall of someone who is butt ugly.
just like people have idolised ELVIS...MARILYN...JAMES DEAN.....do I need to go on???
For some these people have had an important significance in their lives.And for me RIVER had an impact on my life too.

Ekoostik, I'm very sorry for your loss...Your attitude can be understandable from this point of view. You have lived the tragedy. We all wish you only well from now on. But try to show respect towards the people who have sensitive hearts and who connect to other people, even if they don't know them, let River for a while, think of the Internet friends for example. So I understand you don't cry at movies coz they are not real. Well they tell about real things that may happen every day and so was River, a very real person, whom we never met but whom we started to care about because of the feelings he conveyed us through his work, through his deeds. No need to lead a "sheltered life" for that.
I have many songs that remind me of River, especially the songs people used for their tributes to him on Youtube. A very special one is indeed "Fire And Rain" by James Taylor.
