River Phoenix was a sexy actor. He was a great singer and he mest up one time and it cost him his life. I believe if River was alive today there would be no Brad Pitt. Ditto again! I am at least glad that in the couple of years before his death, he was able to shake the teeny-bopper image and come out as a handsome deep kinda dude. A book I read a while back has a GREAT photo of him. He was on top of a horse - a Paint/Mustang breed. Nice pic.

I think River was and is one of the most incredible actors ever to walk the face of the earth! He touched so many people and he did so much - like when he bought all those acres of rainforest just to save it from being destroyed. He was so talented aswell, he could sing, play guitar, act, and he had to learn piano for his role of Danny Pope!
He was such an incredible kid, and he deserves to be remembered. I think it is really sad that the ending of Stand By Me no longer leaves us with a tear in our eye, but a bitter ache i our hearts, and I wish we could have kept him forever.
But it seems we would have lost River anyway. He would now be living in Costa Rica, working in his father's vegan restaurant far, far away from the public eye, the photographers and the bright lights of Hollywood. I don't know how you would have felt about that, but as far as I am concerned, compared to how we actually lost River, losing him to Costa Rica is a price I would have paid a thousand times.

It's been 12 years since River Phoenix died. There's a whole new generation out there that has never even heard of him. He would now be 35 years old. His acting career may not have even lasted that long. Who knows? Who cares? He is DEAD, people. He is not coming back. Get it? The only thing that survives is a handful of aging films. The photo of River in his casket is no big deal. It just shows what a lousy embalming job he got. River's family is upset, of course. Their meal ticket is now gone. River supported his whole family. Choosing to distance from someone who had such bad habits and vile problems is not pessimism. Rather, it is about sound character and making correct moral choices. It's never a good idea to associate oneself with people of the deep and dark drug scene.
Say what you want about River, but no matter what "goods" someone represents, it is all wiped out by the choice to take drugs. Sad but reality.

i cant think about anything else, its always River Phoenix. i cry sometimes too. like yesterday, coz i was thinking about him all day at school, i just burst into tears, right in the middle of a basket ball game. everyone was like 'i bet she missed the ball or something' and i like cried out 'no! im crying coz of River Phoenix!' and theyre lke 'who?' that made me cry even harder. when i try to go to sleep, theres just this picture of river in my head. i had this dream that i witnessed him dying, and i woke crying really hard. im not a crier really, but everytime i think about him, it just gets me really sad. like in the article about the guy cutting his shoulder length natural blonde hair made me cry too, because my hair is shoulder length and blonde too. if anyone thinks im weird because of all this, you can write it down, because ill probably cry at your responses anyway

The day that River died I was still a little girl,I did saw the movie 'Stand by me' one of the greatest movies ever made, I didn't know him personal but I do think he was one of the best actors ever.
He was so talented, I can't say I love him 'cause I didn't know him but I do care about him you have a place in my heart and I find it sad that you where still so young,with a whole life ahead of you, I hope you can show the world what drugs does to you, I don't do drugs and I will never will that's my respect to you!

right, i agree with all that has been said but i find it really hard to believe that people seem 2 only focus on 1 side or the other why can people not look at both sides and just think "Yea he was a drug addict, he has probably done some bad things in the past but also he had done things to way out the situation so in that case he is just as normal as some1 like me and you". i have 2 admit that i have had drugs before and yea it got outta hand but are we sure that he wasnt able 2 cope like us???
