What were you doing when you heard?

Hey

What was everyone doing when they heard the news about River?

I was 13 years old and had been a River fan for ages - posters on my walls etc. I was coming back from seeing my Grandparents late at night and we were in the car when my dad stoped to get petrol/gas. Anyway, it came over the radio that River had died and I started crying. The song they played after the news was Dina Carrolls "Don't be a Stranger". Everytime I hear that song now, it takes me back to that night.
Anyway, the next day, my Mum (Mom) made me take all my pictures down off my bedroom walls of him, as she had heard about how he'd died and she said she didn't want me to have posters up of someone who was 1) dead and 2) died from drugs. I hid all my posters in a box under the bed and I guess somewhere in my parents house they are still there. I'm 24 now and I still miss him!

Peace,
Cindi.xxx

It's kinda weird, I was only 3 when he died, but i do remember my dad telling my mom at dinner one night that he died because he just heard it on the news. My mom just said, "oh, what a shame, he was a great actor." My brother didn't know who he was and I didn't either since i was only 3 at the time. I remembered this like a few years ago and asked my mom if she remembered and she's like, "Yeah. . . you can remember that? You were still in a high chair." So that's how I found out, but I obviously wasn't sad or anything. My life was about Barbies and Winnie the Pooh back then!

Wow, your 24. Like the others I was only 3 when he died and I"m gonna turn 14 in july on the 26th. Anyway, it is so powerful how you still remember him and miss him years later even though it has only been 11 years and it is hard to drop him, but hey isn't it wierd how you feel like you know river and you didn't! And you miss him the way you would a family member!

I was three two. I remember my step-sister who had memorized all the lines on Stand By Me said he died. She was 10. My dad said something about him being stupid and my step mom just nodding. My sis was really upset.

Thanks guys for making me feel so god damn OLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!
Yeah, I still think about him everyday. When you've been completely in lurve with him for years and your having your teenage hormones running about at 13 and then they die - yeah. It was a shock.

Peace,
Cindi. xxx (who's 25 in December - aaaarrrrgghhhh!!!!)

Well i worked second shift at the time and had just came home from work when i heard and i had just turned 21 in September and i remember thinking River had turned 23 in August and had his whole life ahead of him and how could this have happened..but now as i think back i to had did my share of drugs back then and luckily lived to tell but drugs were something that alot of people did in the 80's & early 90's it wasn't just junkies and drug addicts doing it(which is what some people consider River to have been)but i don't agree..i wasn't an addict i just wanted to let loose and have a good time when i was doing them and i think River was doing the same but things just got out of control..i wish it would of never happened to him but it did and it is something that will forever be in my memory:(

I was 8 when River passed away, but I don't have any recall of the news...Still, I do remember when I first saw River in a movie (maybe I was 9 or 10) and I liked him so very much, so I asked my parents who he was and they said River Phoenix. They said that sadly he had died at a very young age. As I was just a kid, I was very shocked and I couldn't understand how could somebody so young and beautiful in all ways could die so young...Death didn't make any sense to me then and in a way today neither...I was just so sad!As it always hurt when I was thinking of him, I tried to turn the page and let it go. But from then I've seen movies with him, I've grown up and one day I just felt like I miss him and that I want to find out more about him. And so I did. It amazes me how I never forgot his name since my mum told it to me when I was like 9. I have always missed him.

I can recall that I was at home that day. I was doing something and the next thing I knew, I saw the TV screen with his picture that flashed on the screen..I was in total disbelief and my mom couldnt believe it either. It was horrible. I was 22 so I AM OLD! LOL and at almost 35 years old I STILL remember him all these years.

I was 18 and i had just came home from a night out, an all night halloween rave and it was on the news and it was very surreal because i had been taking drugs the same night and when it was on the news, it didnt actually sink in, it wasnt as if it happened.

I was 7 and I was a flapper girl for Halloween I had a red flapper girl outfit. I didn't even know who River Phoenix was. My family didn't watch television and we lived in a commune.

You know; there have been rumors of famous people still alive long after their deaths.

When I was a kid there were rumors of James Dean still alive, but in hiding because of his facial features being all tore up.

Rumors of J.F.K. still alive, but quietly and secretly put away by the Kennedy clan.

Rumors of Jim Morrison of the Doors being still alive, and that his death was just faked so he could get away from all the craziness from his fame.

One more that may be more well known is of course that Elvis is still alive, and being protected by the F.B.I. in the witness protetion.

The chances are slim to none that River is still alive some where. Though it doesn't hurt to dream or imagine what he might have done if he was still alive.

There's a guy who has a blog Heath Ledger is not dead blogspot or something. Here's the link.

http://heathledgerisnotdead.blogspot.com/

It's kind of funny the way he posts all these coincidences and says that Mary Kate, Michelle, Coroners Office etc were all in on his faking his own death. But people actually believe all this crap. I wish it weren't true that he wasn't dead but he is. It's sad the way some of the people are posting their agreement with him. He wrote that Heath faked his death over Brokeback that he wanted to be remembered for the Joker. Lately he said that someone sent him an email through his youtube page saying that he was right. Whatever... He is clever. He seems more intelligent than that Doktor Freedom guy who posted these vids on you tube saying that he was Heaths bodyguard and Heath was at his own funeral LMAO! Seriously he has people taken in over this crap. You should read it it's interesting!!
