I am obsessed with Stand By Me! I absoultly love it. It started when i was 12 and we were watching it at school. I ended up buying the DVD and i watch it nearly every night.
I know all the words and everything. I bug my friends coz i make them watch it lol. But when i was told that River Phoenix who plays Chris Chambers, died in 1993 i was shattered. I worship River and think that hes the best ever. R.I.P RIVER JUDE PHOENIX 1970-1993
Skin it.

It's been said countless times, I know, but River Phoenix was such an exceptional actor, his performance would be enough to make even a bad movie watchable. That said, I would recommend Dogfight - not only does River give an incredibly real and moving performance, the same could be said for his costar Lily Taylor and the mood is such that this film is bound to stay with you for a long time. I know it did for me.

Also, check out Running on Empty - fantastic performances all-around.

GET LOST ANT! You and your two buddies Ally and Nat are old news and do not know anything. You are "sheep" that follow a crowd. I am probably younget than you and know more than you all do. You all BARELY talk about river and what this board is about. Worry more about others who have stolen money from people where there is proof. I am shocked that you even addressed a real River issue and question. GO AWAY!

Oh, to answer this thread I would say watch Running On Empty (his performance was beautiful and natural), and My Own Private Idaho (really great acting and a stretch for him as an actor). Enjoy his wonderful work.

"My Own Private Idaho" had the most impact for me. This movie comes across as being real, as if we were watching a slice of real life. It's a movie but the realism River and Keanu bring gives it a sense of truth. I have lived in places like the ones shown here, been with and around people who live life as seen in this movie. You are being missed, River...

My favorite is definitely Running on Empty. It showcased River unbridled talent, even at such a young age.

Having said that, Stand By Me is one of my favorites as well. The characters were great....check it out if you've not seen it!

I THINK THAT MOVIE TURNED HIM INSIDE OUT. IT IS SAID THAT RIVER "BECAME" THE CHARACTER HE PLAYED. IF HE DID NOT STAR IN MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, MAYBE HE WOULD BE ALIVE AND NOT OF USED HEROIN AND COKE... HE DID DO AN AWESOME JOB IN THAT MOVIE, BUT IT WAS NOT HIS STYLE IN MY OPINION!
