I have a question about MOPI. I can't say I fully understand it. I love River so very much, I think much more for his personality then his talent, because don't you find he did not do a very good job of acting in this. The campfire scene is good but he is scripting through most of it. I did not understand the plotline I guess. I didn't but its authenticity.

But on the up-side, I own a few River movies, including MOPI but I just ordered every one that I do not already own, which was 7 from amazon, they will be in soon I hope. Except for The Thing Caled Love, it's not out yet so I will order that on March 7th when it does come out. I am so excited because there are alot I have no yet seen.

Hello Jenn!

Nice to talk to you again! May I give you a heads up on a couple of things? I mean not to "spoil" the movies for you in any way - these are just my opinion. But I am sure my comrades here at MH would agree ...

MOPI was ahead of it's time. Written in a Shakesperean prose - it would be hard for some fans to familiarize themselves with it's meaning - but it sounds like your curiosity will soon answer and appreciate itself for the fine movie it is . HOWEVER ....

When it comes to "The Thing Called Love", that is a VERY touchy subject with many River fans, myself included. The movie plot itself is cute - I loved it! Especially the music! But sadly - this movie was made during the height of River's addiction, and IT SHOWS. His speech is slurred severely (and I'm not talking a Texas drawl). He cannot focus on the camera, and it is clear he is not in tune with his character in the film. We call it "The Stare" while watching the film - because he is nearly a walking "zombie" (forgive me for that!) even though he announces his dialogue. Many of his facial expressions are obviously under the influence. And there are certain scenes where it is painfully obvious he cannot hold his own while "high". I won't say what scenes they are - we'll just wait until you've seen the movie.

The saddest part of all - is that the makers of this movie absolutely HAD to know something was wrong with Phoenix. But as JC mentioned in another post, I believe the producers wanted their MONEY for the film - rather than get the guy help sad to say. Who is to say if he would have accepted the help they may have offered? Not me! An addict HAS TO help themselves - we can't do it for them. But regardless, the final outcome was a completed movie of "The Thing Called Love" released the spring after his death, and it is PAINFULLY obvious that River was on a downward spiral. The makers of the movie simply had to know this guy was not in good shape.

Let us know when your movies come in and give us your opinion. Finding common ground, along with creative differences, make for some of the BEST posts here at MH. Take care!
