River's Blue

Has anyone ever found out why River looks so blue in his coffin picture. He looks like he had a ski mask on and then they spray painted around it blue. It's very odd. I can't believe that the funeral home would have done a bad job on him, you think they would have tried to do their best wrk possible on someone so famous. He does not look peaceful at all, and his mouth is open slightly. It is a gripping sight.

REMEMBER River was VERY VERY VERY ill when he passed away.. he had so many differnt drugs in his blood stream and LETHAL doses. THE DRUGS CUT OFF HIS OXYGEN THAT IS WHY HE IS BLUISH! He was terribly ill and had many seizures... he suffered and it showed in death. It was not pretty.. but our body is just a vessel.. he will always be the beautiful River!

I DONT MIND DISCUSSING THE PHOTO. I HAVE SEEN IT AND IT HELPED ME WITH CLOSURE. I JUST WANT TO HOLD AND KISS HIM WHEN IS SEE IT!

I want to go back to that day and save him! I think about his death everyday! I cant imagine what he went thru and his family! God bless them all!

I know all that but I still don't think that has anything to do with why he would be blue, you turn blue because of brusing and stuff but when your in the coffin you've been enbambed(can't spell) and that very act removes the blood from your body, so unless they missed some, I find it weird that he is blue. I want an explanation damnit!! No just kidding, but he's blue.

I can only suggest an explaination in a technical way, so here goes.

  • Poor embalming
  • Flourescent lighting (most parlors are equiped with flourescent lighting)
  • Flash bounce back from the camera that was used.
  • Possibly an attempt to alter the photo for lighting - although doubtful since nothing else in the photo seems to be off-color.

"I want to go back to that day and save him! I think about his death everyday!"

If you really mean that, then you need help. And I'm not being mean--that's a comment made out of concern for the human condition. If you're obsessing over ANYONE like that, celebrity or not, you should STRONGLY consider seeking some assistance dealing with those feelings from a qualified therapist. Seriously. The death of someone you didn't know should only be on your mind once in a blue moon, when something reminds you of them (like one of his movies, in River's case). What you're doing is called obsessing, and it's not normal. You really do need help, along with all the others here who make similar comments about thinking of him every day and wishing you could go back and save him, etc. That's not a normal way to feel. Not healthy at all. Get help, ok?

Please let IT go... remember River in life.. not death. Wipe that pic outta your head... its morbid to keep talking about it over and over! He would not want us to keep discussing it over and over... its just ridiculous! River is beautiful 4ever!

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend by the question. I personally don't think death is all the wrong to talk about. I guess I have just known lots of people who've died so I am much more open and accepting about it. If some of the people i've known turned out blue I would be concerned as well, I did just want to know what was up, but out of respect for you being offended, I will let it go, since there is no answer. Of course River is beautiful and is hopefully remembered that way, its a cold hard fact though, that he's dead, and his last moments in life were spent being blue. It's just too bad that the last image we get of him is not one of peace.
