Does any one who has heard River's band with his sister Rain think he could've made it to the top of the music charts? Unfortunatly I have never heard his music yet, and am curious if other's think he could've made it professionally after getting through his movie contract? I understand he wanted to hang up his acting career and trade it for a music career. Would he have made it?

I doubt he would have had a number 1 hit if he carried on with the same type of music. I know at first his music took some getting used to for me, but after that, wow, I really love the music. It's different and it's raw and it's truly unique to its own. Not only that, but I loved the messages behind the more political songs. His music and songs had meaning. And I think that's what matters.

River and his band had a 2 year development deal with island records. they recorded demos to send to the label, the idea was if the lable thought they had potential then an album would be funded. two years ended up being around 4 because the deal worked around River's movie commitments. When the demos were completed and sent to island they decided the sound was not commercial and did not persue the deal. So River funded his own album. Alekas Attics music was never really commercial, because it was too good. in my opinion. the lyrics were poetic, not slushy. the music was melodic, fluent and relativly complex. they were heavily influenced by real bands and they gave a crap about credibility. River's music towards the end especially was so far removed from what would be deemed 'commercial'. I don't think he was the type of character who would have thrived being a commercial musician. I think he would he would have rather it been him making music that he liked regardless of what mainstream generally accepted as 'great' than bowing to label execs and changing his vision to acquire success. which is basically what happened.

Does any one know how I could have a listen to his music? I had a quick look on the internet but can't seem to find anything.. I don't know any of the names of his songs or albums which makes it a bit tricky...
