"On the racetrack he showed the potential to be a superstar," Paul Schosberg said.
"If the vets pronounce him fit to be a stallion, I think the biggest problem will be
selecting those who are allowed to breed to him." ( http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_142163709.html )
I would initially try to breed a turf horse. Start with the Northern Dancer line,Storm Cat,Sadlers Wells,Danzig and Danehill. I'll try to post some specific mares soon.

Some names that should ring a bell.
Full sisters Banks Hill and Intercontinental,by Danehill o/o a Kahyasi mare.
Islington,by Sadlers Well o/o a Darshaan mare.
Ouija Board,by Cape Cross o/o a Welsh Pagent mare.
Storm Flag Flying,by Storm Cat o/o an Easy Goer mare.
Sweet Catomine,by Storm Cat o/o a Kris S mar,give you 3x4 to Roberto.
Should get some distance loving turf horses with these hypos.

Elk,I think he will get a quality book his first season(2008?). Can't envision anything other than stakes winners, stakes producers or sisters of each. The examples I offered were famous mares from the Northern Dancer sire line that I think would work well with Barbaro and hopefully generate some discussion. Got a feeling his offspring will tend towards turf, might see the Dubai and Coolmore boys grab multiple shares, and in that case the quality of mares will be assured from the start.
Got any mares you'd like to see go to Barbaro?

I don't have a clue as to what made me think of this mare, but I'm glad I did. How about Farda Amiga?
The baby would be an outcross in the first 3 gens, with the closest inbreeding being a 4X4 to His Majesty. It's completely free of Northern Dancer until the 6th and also free of Mr. P until the 4th.
The Roberto/Dynaformer thing is obvious turf.....I still think Barbaro would have been an even bigger star on the grass.....but the Ack Ack/Broad Brush thing is also a solid plus on the grass. Remember that Farda Amiga herself broke her maiden in her career debut running on the turf.
I think the thought of this hypothetical little one is a wee bit delicious!
That is the type of mare I like for Barbaro when we get away from ND. Broad Brush was never very fertile, only 280 live foals the last eight years from '98 to '05 so those mares are scarce. Generally on the course side, not very feminine but they can run and stand training usually. Point Determined a good runner out of a Broad Brush mare this year. They should improve as 4yo's and 5yo's.
