For some reason, they took the Silverbulletday out of the sale...if anyone knows anything, please post.
OJ's man B. Wayne Hughes got the Soaring Softly for a song...$0.5M...
Pulpit's half brother went for an even $3M...nice score for the local Paris boys!
I had the privelege of attending the Sir Shackleton Stallion Announcement Party at Castleton Lyons yesterday...what a beautiful job they've done there. (It must be nice being a billionaire with good taste.) He goes to stud for them next year, at what I think is a steal of a price: $7,500. I always liked this horse, so I may be biased, but he did set two track records at 7f. Get a nice filly with some turf and stamina underneath, and they might just make hay, as they say.

I am soooo tickled that B Wayne got the Aldebaran-Soaring Softly colt. He must really like what she's throwing, because this is the second of her foals that he's picked up at auction. When the time comes, I hope Richard gets him!
I wonder if Wayne might be thinking about trying to acquire Soaring Softly herself. Boy, that would make me a happy little you-know-what!
Just watched a Kingmambo colt(#425) go for 11,700,000. At that price it's either Coolmore or Sheik Mo. Probably Mo,he races the full brother. #430,a half to Birdstone and Bird Town up shortly and #434,half to Leroidesanimaux from the family of Cacique,Dansili,Banks Hill,Heat Haze should draw interest.
#430 went for 1.3 million
#434 went for 2.6 million

Anyone can attend the Barretts sale. Now bidding on the horses is another matter as you need to be prequalified. By the way, the prefered yearling sale is Oct 3rd.
My father and I are selling hip #304 a January Woodman colt that is out of an unraced Wild Again mare. That mare is a 1/2 to Demaloot Demashoot who was a grade 3 winner and multiple grade 2 and 3 placed (and a succesful sire) as well as 3 other graded placed runners. As we do like the colt, we will put a decent reserve on him and keep him if he does not bring enough.
Dell, like Reviewer said anyone can attend.I still remember my first sale, late '60's at Saratoga when my dad took me to see a yearling sale. Walking through the barns, watching the horses enter the ring, the auctioneer, following the bidding on the board, I've been hooked ever since.
A few surprises, hip #91 a Mr Greeley colt that went for 5.7 million was spectacular in the ring, almost statuesque for more than 10 minutes as the bidding progressed. I didn't see a better ring presence all day but with the mostly German female family I had this one pegged at less than a million. Fillies that RNA'd that I'd love to have in my broodmare band include #24 a Sadlers Wells,#75 an Empire Maker,#160 a Storm Cat and most dissapointing #232 the Vindication-Hookedonthefeelin that RNA'd at 725K. On the positive side I posted on #60(3million),#82(1.5million),#83(2.8Million),#125(2.2million) and#154(8.2million) as the topper for day 1. The highlight of the day was seeing B Wayne Hughes pick up the Pas and Hoop favorite #94 Aldebaran-Soaring Softly colt for 500K. Going to be a battle to see who can claim I saw this one first.
My first sale was back in the mid-80's when they had that little experiment with a yearling sale held after the races on a Friday & Saturday at Del Mar. As I recall, it didn't last very long, but the couple of years I went, I really enjoyed it, though I really didn't know much about what I was looking at at the time.
The first time I went to a sale that really generated some excitement and anticipation, it was to the Marshall Naify 505 Farms dispersal sale.....2000 I think. The most exciting moment there was when Aaron & Marie Jones brought the hammer down on Manistique with a bid of $3M. I also saw a Forum favorite go......Swept Overboard. Remember him? And David Copperfield, who's only claim to fame was spoiling Fusaichi Pegasus' career debut. That was a night to remember.
Now, I'm completely addicted to the 2yo in training sales in March and May at Barretts. I plan well in advance to take those Tuesdays off from work, and try hard to bone up on the sale entries as much as I can. They are just a kick and a half!
Dell, we should definitely make plans to go see the 2yos sell this coming March. You'll love it!
Looks like a Bull Market in the Horse ring. $11,700,000? I can't even imagine what it would be like to have the funds available to make such a speculation. Methinks its time to develop some alternative energy sources. The Sheiks got waaaaaaaay too much money.
