Chaz you did not put UpinClass as the group . Not to worry as now I know you are in I will include you.. I believe there might be a few others in this category also. BTW the overall scoring by TT is totally screwed up . The competition didn't start until june 1 but it appears that entrants have been credited with May earnings.

Bev, since the ultimate goal in this thing is to name the freshman who tops the list at the end of the year, it seems to me that they would have to include progeny earnings accrued before the entry deadline of May 31st. 2yos did start racing as early as the last half of April. While the money they earn in those early races from 2 to 4-1/2 furlongs isn't particularly significant, in a tight race in late December, it can still mean something. Also, scoring the contest after 7 months trying to eliminate earnings accrued before the contest deadline just isn't practical.

I'm probably speaking out of line here, so forgive me. I opted not to get involved with this thing this year. I'm just thinking that inclusion of progeny earnings accrued prior to the official start date of the contest is reasonable and practical.

Does not seem fair to me but if you put in your entry on May 31 you got all the earnings that your horses had already earned in May. Here are the correct overall standings. Bev, I completely understand your "fairness" position, but let's face it. Anybody who selects their stallion roster in this contest based on earnings already accumulated by babies making their debuts in 2 to 4-1/2 furlong races, which is all we have until toward the end of May, don't really have an advantage, and they may be shooting themselves in the foot thinking that they do. This contest doesn't end until the last 2yo runs on 12/31. A baby running once, or maybe twice, in the first 6 weeks or so of a 2yo season that spans about 8-1/2 months, isn't likely to have much of an impact on his or her daddy's standings on the Freshman Sire List at the end of the year. This day and age, 2yos that earn real money don't make their debuts in April/May.

Add to that the scoring headache of trying to eliminate any earnings accrued before the contest deadline.....I just think they're doing the right thing, practically if nothing else.

Paseana, that's what I originally thought but the guy who is in the overall lead accumulated $215,000 in May while our backmarker Cruzam only got $7,000. That's quite a gap to make up.

Agreed, Bev. That IS surprising to me as well. I can't imagine how he could have collected that much in May without having checked the freshman sire list on 5/31 and picked his roster accordingly. While anybody could have done the same thing, it's still unfair because it wasn't made clear at the outset that earnings prior to the contest deadline were going to count, so not everybody was aware of it. You're right, it does seem unfair.

I guess the only remedy in the future is to move the entry deadline up to April 30th instead. I still think it's just not practical to score the contest throughout the year trying to exclude pre-deadline earnings.

But something needs to be done to address this problem, that's for sure.
