If there is anything to celebrate in this game, it's a horse like this! 10 years old and still just doing his thing. He won this race (the Singspeil) last year at age 9, and he also won it two years before that at age 7. He and his 7yo stablemate, Simmard, put on a show in a stretch drive that left the rest of the field for dead.
The thing that's really unusual, frankly unheard of, is that 10yo Musketier is entire! He runs in all these graded stakes races over the last six or seven years while still keeping his cujones. I wonder if maybe they did a semen analysis on him several years ago and determined that his little swimmers weren't viable....but if that was the case, you'd think they would have gelded him on the spot.
All that aside, this German-bred delight is truly one of my favorite horses of the last few years, and given the circumstances around him, he is one of the reasons that Roger Attfield will get a plaque this year in the Hall Of Fame.
