You guys, why can't Todd Pletcher keep his dirt horses healthy and sound?
I just don't get it. I know there's probably been a horse or two since that I'm forgetting, but I still swear that the last dirt horse that he trained in a relatively untroubled career was Ashado. His turf horses don't seem to be plagued like this. English Channel, Honey Ryder, and many others were iron horses.
The presumptive favorite for the Kentucky Derby has been either withdrawn or scratched the last four years in a row. Three of those favorites were Pletcher horses. As I recall, Quality Road's problem was bad feet, and bad feet can happen to any trainer, but Eskendereya and Uncle Mo are another thing altogether.
I don't believe that Todd is "juicing" his horses. I did have a problem with the way that Scat Daddy and Circular Quay were winning their races back in 2007 at Gulfstream and Fairgrounds respectively....it made me a little uncomfortable. But that was 4 years ago, and I've seen nothing since that gives me the impression that drugs are involved with Todd Pletcher's success. He continues to get the best stock from some of the highest players in the game........
I just don't understand how he can't keep them sound and healthy after only one or two races.
