Cup Recap

Hi all- A big TEXAS good time was had. And Dam and Seth- you must try "Oban" single malt! whoa nellie lol And the 'Cowboy Ribeye' at Nick and Sam's steakhouse is top notch. One of the best steaks I've ever eaten.

Dell- Sorry I couldn't get those 'final answers' in to you-by the time I got your voicemail 'twas too late. But the team "Distaff" (Dudley) play was made- Storm Flag (didn't like her at 9f with these) cost us the tri there. "Final" selection was: Ashado, Stellar Jayne, Tamweel, Nebraska Tornado- first, third, fourth.. ah well. Thanks for doing all the work to put it together for the cause.

Distaff- p3 live tri lost as noted above: Ashado, my top pick didn't disappoint. S.Jayne ran her tail off again. Tuff filly- I like her even more now.

JFilly- p3 live. No price again but the Sweetcatomine is this year's version of Halfbridled- a little girl in a grown woman's body. Much the best.

Mile- I TOLD you to run to the windows when the bong brothers tossed Singletary! LOL ouch.. tri's supers- invested as planned- not even close!! P3 hit the floor dead. But now the sprint...

Sprint- tri/super investment looking good...Speightstown on the ticket after Pletcher proved his worth w/Ashado. My early and final key - Kela gave me his kick.. 1-2 finishers yea yea come on now...Aaaaaaaarrrrggggghhhhh.. no 12 here... no tri no super..haven't cashed a cent.. bummer.

FM Turf- Thank you thank you thank you, Ouija Board. Go figure. The race I spent the least time on, and only invested $36 in: $1 tri key 5/(x4) =$12 $1 super key 5/(x4) = $24. Caa Ching!!!!! Signer super- 36 in 1810 out. Up for the day with more to play hip hip hooray..

Juvenile- DOH! Wrong euro! Scam-dinavia nada.. Afleet Alex was my top choice- shoulda woulda coulda.. I think the trip trouble may have cost him, but didn't cost me as I had no Wilko anywhere.

Turf- umm..have to see the tape and play Steward myself..by then I was into the party and never saw the incident. Only had KJ on top.

Classic- Effing Frankel-juice killed me again. Or should I say the ONE HORSE that he has that doesn't apparently NEED HELP killed me there. Like M'doro last year- the ONLY one that runs his race on the entire card after a dismal showing all day. I took a stand against all his runners- didn't use any of his earlier, why change now huh? Well..
But it really didn't matter. I was swinging for the fences again; played against all the speed- so Roses in May wasn't on my plays either. Perfect Drift was- big whoop.

Bottom line: I cashed one race- 2 tickets. "Gambled" to reach for the 100k super- just had the wrong horses! Sprint- same attempt- 1,2,nada,nada... I'd do the same thing again in a heartbeat, or in a year from now. Had a great time. Won money on the day. Can't ask for more.

Oh.. forgot to add my 'DOH' of the day thought about the classic: reason that Ghostzapper should have been played regardless: Who owns him? Who onws LS Park? the reason they got the Cup there? DOH! Thanks Frank. I have to wonder if he was given a 'special' barn...things that make me go hmmmm....DOH!

bc day from the million room

November 1 2004, 11:01 AM

I was proud to be amongst an august group of mugs in the million room at arlington for bc day...sheets,morgan edge, aldo, crazzy bob, silent jim, uncle joe lezniak were all at our table (duds & ski your absences were conspicuously noted)...I must also say that we all cleaned up real nice to conform to the dress code...the view from the million room is quite awe inspring...would be a great place to watch the live races...the buffet was tremendous....had more than made up for the $30 entry fee with my 1st two passes thru the line!...oh yeah the races...I think everyone at our table made some dough...my buddy aldo had a huge day that included a $30win ticket on wilko...silent jim hit 5 of the eight winners...my own bc recap is below:

distaff - show money on stellar jayne...I agree she's a gamer

juvie for girls - place money

mile thru turf - not a dang thing

classic - after taking a beating & being almost $550 down..took the leap of faith & hit g-zapper with a $200w ticket...did u guys & gals here me yelling in the stretch? huge comeback to the plus side....

big dogs truly run late!

Sounded like a worthwhile and fun trip Dudley. Congrats on your score! No I couldn't take your advice and focus on a couple of targets so I didn't have the capital to try the Tri or the Super on the mile, the one race i spent most of my time on arrrgh! STill there was that exacta I will look for Oban!

Big daddy doing it right with the boys. Way to go on the zapper bet. No guts no glory eh? I wonder if you were a little worried when Roses in May didn't get shaken off his shoulder right away..... considering the gutsy performance and win RIM gave previously in a similar situation.

Looks like you guys had a great time in two separate states! Then again, I'm sure you two would find a good time in a phone bet with a betting account! Wish I could've joined you!

Just wanted to say thanks to Dudley.
You reminded me of what Ive always known, but never been able to do: Concentrate on what I know best and not get sidetracked by the "smorgasboard" effect that is BC day. I bet the smallest amount of money Ive ever wagered this year with 80% on 2 turf races. And the result was my first profitable BC day in 4 years and my 2nd best day of the year.
Come to think of it, your responsible for my 2 best days this year! Maybe I should put a picture of you on my desktop for racing days. LOL. Maybe a "Best of Dudley" for my screensaver....

>>>And Dam and Seth- you must try "Oban" single malt

I knew you had good taste.

The 14yo Oban is my favorite Scotch.

And for $35 a bottle its reasonable to keep around the house!

You may want to ask Big Daddy for a copy of the picture he keeps of Dudley on his desk--I think he calls it "Speedo's On the Beach".

Seth- you're welcome. You don't know how good that does my heart to hear that I actually helped a fellow horseplaying friend to a winning day. (twice even? LOL) THAT is what our community here is about for me. The give and take, the spot horses, the angles, the varying handicapping perspectives etc; all the good advice. And when it comes to BC- absolutely the wagering approach we take can make the world of difference as you've realized.
So never mind homage with a screensaver- just send me a bottle of Oban! LOL! Cheers pal. Lets do it again next year. I know I will not change a thing in my approach to the day.

Dam- that would be Arlington Million Day 2005- I will DEFINITELY have at least 2 bottles on hand. I'll be around the house about 6:30 pm. Be there!

Ski Over/Under

Ski, I did win a buck from G.

Big Daddy had the over/under of calls from you at 7. I took the under, G the over and I thank you for your restraint.

Re: Cup Recap

November 2 2004, 11:02 PM

I had to laugh when I saw that Pas' puter crashed. Mine took a dump Saturday afternoon and I had to go buy a new one. I'll have to enter everybody's addys all over again, so be patient...geeeeeesh!

I only managed to cash a couple exactas in the Juvie Fillies and the Sprint. LOVVVVVVE my Speightstown. Got ripped off in the Turf. I cannot believe they didn't take down Better Talk Now after he rammed Kittens Joy & the other one out of the way...unreal.

Anyway, on to the next challenge.

Rob

Cup Recap

November 2 2004, 11:45 PM

Robin,

Wish I could dismiss the tough draw and love your Speightstown the way I liked Singletary in the Mile. That was a solid pick 4 payoff and the one that got away on this BC day, I'm afraid. I'll let you know about Florida by 12-1. By the way is the Tropical Park Derby that first weekend of the year? If I come down, I'd like to think about Sunday the 2nd as my son plays in West Palm Beach on the 3rd and 4th. I'll let you know..

That sounds great Larry. I checked the Calder site & the T-Park Derby is run on Saturday, Jan. 1. Then it looks like Sunday, everything's closed and GP opens up on Jan. 3rd. Check all this out for yourself under the HORSEMEN headings at both sites...they open up the stakes schedules on both.

http://gulfstreampark.com

I certainly hope we'll be able to hook up at some point.

Rob :-D
