Sadness on Cup Day

Another horse died on Breeders' Cup Day. I'll never get used to it. RIP Funfair. :*(

Lost In The Fog's no show was a tremendous blow to Bay Area Racing, and also saddens me. I stand by my post that stated he was better served to compete in The Vosburg which turned out to be the key race for the sprint. It made total sense then as it does now. A G1 Prep at the dist/surf. is always gonna put more into your runner than a manufactured overnight at your home track. I was hoping he'd be able to overcome the maneuver, but alas he could not.

Pete,

Feel your pain, also lost some $$. But, LITF remains a great horse & while the handling may be questioned, it was their call & what is, is....karma...

I love the horse, love the conections & wish them the best..

T-Bolt

I did have the exacta in that race and still felt completely empty when it was over. We NoCals may not see his like again, and it was very sad to see him come up empty in the stretch. You're right about the Vosburgh, I think. It served Taste of Paradise well (btw, he got robbed!) and maybe would have given him the conditioning he needed to finish off his move. Oh well, maybe will get another great horse up here in another twenty years...

As for Funfair, agree on the RIP. There might be something about running against this kind of competition at the encd of a long year that does take its toll. BC does seem to have far more than its share of casualties. One year, I actually bet on two different horses that died--Go For Wand, and Mr Nickerson, who had a heart attack. It can be a brutal game.

I always hate seeing that part of the game. It never gets any easier and is unfortunately the sickening part of this game. As far as Foggy, everyone in NoCal should still be proud. He got your name on the map for a good part of the year. He probably made a few new fans out of some in NoCal who maybe went to the track just to see him and ended up enjoying themselves. Foggy will be back. This horse traveled all over the damn place this year and ran his race every single time until yesterday. Nothing to be ashamed of. He'll be back as a 4 year old and now that his unbeaten streak is over, maybe Gilchrist tries some new things. Try and potentially stretch him out sometime during his 4 year old season or maybe even try the turf. He could also just keep him sprinting since he still is pretty good at that lol. Point for the Sprint next year with a few tougher races under his belt without racing a ton of times throughout the year. Then it might be scary what he could do. Kepp your heads up. He'll be back.

Good point about the streak, Mike. What a load of the connection's shoulders. Now they can manage him in the best possible fashion instead of protecting his unbeaten status. Blessing in diguise.

That's one of the first things I thought of too, after recovering from the shock of seeing him fade out of sight, but in the wrong direction .

Thank Heaven's THAT's over! Winning horse races is hard enough and that's the last kind of pressure that any horse and his or her connections should have to deal with.

As long as he's apparently OK, that's all I care about now. Now maybe a rest is in order, and then I'll be hoping and praying that I'll get my first in-person look at him in the Malibu on opening day!

I hope, I hope, I hope!!!
