Play HANDICAPPERS HELPING HORSES
and be part of this very special 2006 BREEDERS' CUP CONTEST
on behalf of The Exceller Fund! Check out "What's New" @ http://www.excellerfund.org
The idea is simple and it helps to focus the handicapping discussions
regarding the Breeders' Cup races... and we hope that the results will be
very positive for the Exceller Fund and the thoroughbred horses they save!
HOW TO PLAY:
BE A SPONSOR... Select a BC Race and commit to leading a team to victory!
This year, sponsorships can be in ANY form... ANY amount...
a single wager or group play! As always, Gentlemen's Rules apply
and sponsors are bound by their word to donate the winnings to the Exceller Fund.
Of course, the hard part may very well be...
turning over that $10K winning wager after your team HITS!
In past years, sponsorships were based on a $1 [4] horse tri-box ($24).
FOUR Players to a team. Each player selected a runner... and the sponsor
made the play for charity. Still a decent strategy, but please feel free to
go ahead and You Do That VooDoo That You Do So Well!
Sponsor a Team and make a play for charity...
THIS CONTEST IS OPEN TO ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE WHO READS THIS!!!
...and my hope is that racing forums around the internet
will pick up the Breeders' Cup benefit idea and join the effort. Handicappers Helping Horses ...I believe we can make a difference.
I'm in as a sponsor for $24.00 but would like to defer as to how the wager is structured until I can confer with the rest of my 4 player group. In the recent past, placing it on the nose of my BC MILE top selection would have worked quite well but who knows what might be the best strategy this time around? Great idea Dell! Will you fill out the teams or will you rely on the sponsors to do the recruiting? I'm along for this worthy cause either way. Thanks!
Sponsors should use their best insticts to put together teams.
Last year, we had a random draw (...if i'm remembering and sometimes i don't) ,
but the random method of team selection precludes a most important ingredient...
the individual inspiration and genius brought to the game by the sponsor, him/herself!
I have a feeling we're going to see some great teams this year! ~Dell.
I will again be happy to sponsor two teams,$32 for each team, in the 3rd annual Precisionist Pick Four. They should know the drill by now but the two teams are as follows.
#1 Pas,Cockpit,Doc,Turffan,Forego
#2 Robin,Propro,Gam,Hezethebest,Quick Call
Unfortunately there is more pressure than usual this year.
Hooper
I am sending out a "fund-raiser" e-mail tonight to over 50 people, asking people to contribute $6 or multiples thereof.
Our handicapping team will consist of myself, Greg Knepper, Steve Levinson, and Seth Howard.
We'll assign the individual donations into groups of four, and wager $24 on their behalf. I will send out a spreadsheet to all donators so they can see which wagers are in their names so they can have some fun watching the races as well.
For those bets that we win (confidence is already teeming), we will make the tax-deductible donation to the Fund on behalf of those four individuals, less any money withheld for taxes...that's gonna be the tricky part...After we win like $20k, someone's gonna have to claim it on their taxes.
Any suggestions about how to handle the tax situation would be greatly appreciated.
Tom, it'd be my pleasure. I'd like to ask that in return you'd be on one of my teams as well.
Dell, I'd like to sponsor two teams this year since I got too wrapped up on handicapping last year and forgot to sponsor a team. I'll go with the $24 trifecta box for each team.
I'll go with the BC Mile and BC Distaff if that's ok.
Team members please respond if you're available.
Team Mile
Jman667/Jason - If I didn't pick my closest bud there'd be a serious case of guilt trip going on. Doesn't hurt that the guy is a tremendous capper as well.
Ten Furlongs/Tom Williams - Sharp guy that I feel will find that 30/1 sleeper to help make the payout and ensure a generous donation.
Frangooch/Frank - Anybody that is as big a fan of Point of Impact is an excellent judge of hoss flesh in my mind.
Dirbud/Steve - His record speaks for itself. Great guy and has a way with the ladies.
Unusual Pete/Pete - There's nothing unusual about this excellent capper.
Boldbidder/Reggie - Sharp capper that knows his $hit plain and simple. Gut instinct tells me he'd make a helluva drinking buddy as well.
Honorary captain of Team Distaff
Paseana/Margie - It'd be known as a big booboo by Boozer if I didn't try to incorporate some lady luck with this team. No brainer as evidenced by her handicapping abilities.
Sure thing Mike. Nothing like a full-field BC turf race to get the payouts boiling. CD has that quirky surface, too....gotta expect chaotic results. Just hope handicapping doesn't get overwhelmed by bad trip/bad luck.
I would like to sponsor a $24-36 turf trifecta team. Not sure which of the turf races yet.
I would like Dell, Larry and Pete to play if they would like on this team.
I have a suggestion on how to pay the taxes. You make an additional same play as the exceller fund for yourself. Once it hits, you will owe double the taxes but have plenty of money to pay for them.
I'd like to sponsor the Juvenile for a $24 trifecta. I look to the heartland for expertise and would like to invite Big Daddy, Dudley, and Ski to be on the team (b.d., you may have to wake up your mates to let 'em know the race is on). Proceeds from the lock winner go to Exceller in the name of the Gvido Bocka Memorial Fund. RSVP, yes?
I haven't been posting for a little while, but I gotta jump in here. Thanks, Boozer Mike, for the invite to "Honorary Captain" your Distaff team. It truly is an honor, and I will plan to contribute what I can. Thanks much.
I've decided that, since I have been spending most of the spring and summer falling totally in love with the 2yo fillies, it's only fitting that I should offer a sponsorship for the Juvenile Fillies this year. I think we have an awful lot of talented little girls running around out there, and this year's renewal just may be the most wide open in several years.
My sponsorship will be of the very uncomplicated sort.......$24 towards a tri or super play, depending on team consensus. I'm sending out an APB on the following folks to join me in this "Fantastic Filly Funtime"..........
Boozer Mike, gallantbob, & Reggie.....please let me know if you're ready and willing. I'm really looking forward to this race in particular!
P.S. I hope Billy Mott considers entering his little Dixieland Band New York-bred Win With A Wink! I've been lovin' her for quite a while now!
Hoop, I'll be honored once again to participate in the Annual Precisionist Pick 4, and I will do my best to help take it down for Exceller, but it WILL be with a heavy heart this year. Thank you for thinking of me in your initial post.
I've thought long and hard about this and I've decided that even though the Mile has been very good to me this decade with top selections Domedriver and Singletary coming through, over the years I've hit more "signer" Sprint trifectas than any other BC race.
As such, I want to commit $24.00 to a 4 horse trifecta box in the Sprint. In case the play falls apart I'd like a couple of lawyers onboard to help write the disclaimer so I'll tab, GAM and Dan Markoff as well as our fearless leader Dell to complete my 4 person team. When the time comes we'll solicit a single selection from each to make the 4 horse box. I think we can nail this for a well deserving cause and even if that other multiple "H" entitled HENNY HUGHES is the goods, there can still be some value in filling out the other spots!
I'm planning on there being more than one pick four, so I'd be happy to match Hooper's committment on the pick four they don't select. I've been pretty much blanked since hitting the pick four for charity at the '01 Cup, so I'm a bit overdue.
I've been honored to be chosen for 3 teams. As long as that's OK with everyone, I would love to be on all three. I don't mind having to kick in the bucks because it's for a great cause. Thanks Bob, Mike and Tom for choosing me.
