According to reports he called Flower Alley's exclusion from the body of the Classic 'a joke'. Comparing his form THIS year to the others entered, I have to disagree. With one Grade 3 win against a small, non-descript field and two absolutely horrible runs against "Grade 1" fields he looks least worthy. It's not like they get or should get an automatic invitation for hitting the board in the race the previous year.
It does raise a question for me though. If he does get in and Pletcher is so confident about him does that mean we'll see an enhanced run, whatever it is that enhances it?
The horse ran a credible 2nd last year, and has competed in many top races since.
Ya gotta give him the benefit of the doubt, especially with a few no shot runners entered.
Just my opinion, but I think Pletcher has a valid point. If I were on the BC selection committee, I'd give preference to Flower Alley over both Suave and Super Frolic. I'd value his ITM finish last year higher than anything that those two have accomplished this year. Also, as a player, I'd at least concede Flower Alley the possibility of "waking up" and running back to that form. Despite the fact that I had a future wager on Suave last year, I give neither him nor Super Frolic a shot to win the Classic this year.
