Rest in peace, beautiful girl. Let's only hope polytrak can put an end to this. I don't think the sport or its fans can take much more of these tragedies on its biggest day or any day.

Terrible tragedy for Pine Island, and her connections. This also ruins what should have been a tremendous triumph for the winner Round Pond, and the Barbaro team of Michael Matz/Edgar Prado.
It's eerie too that Bernadini's rider Javier Catellano was aboard the ill fated Pine Island, seems like a bad Twilight Zone moment.

Tough year. Unbelievable. The BC seems to have more than its share of these incidents. I've wondered before if running theser horses so hard at the end of a long season is the right thing to do. Pine Island could have been great. RIP, baby.

It's going to be difficult to remember this Cup for much other the tragic loss of Pine Island. Long-time fan of the barn-got to know some of them back in the day, many who I still see on the ends of shanks in big races. I know Croix Boy's feeling the pain, too. RIP, Champion.

Trevor never saw it, it was that weird. I liked her a lot. Saw her win an allowance race live 2 days before Belmont and been on wagon ever since. I'm Hurtin. R.I.P. Piney. R.I.P.

This sport is extremely unfair at times. Very sad what happened today. RIP girl.
