...and I don't mean the weather, although you'd have a tough time convincing me it isn't still August here in eastern NY, with temps in the 80's. No, I'm referring to Handicappers Helping Horses, our annual charity gig here at UIC, where teams of four brainstorm (some would say more like a light drizzle) a brilliant wager whose winning results go to The Exceller Fund (www.excellerfund.org).
I'd like to sponsor the BC Filly & Mare Turf, and would ask that the usual suspects (BIG, Dirbud and Boozer) help with the 'cappin'. Please let me know your availability on this thread so we can move forward.
Sorry to steal your thunder, Mr. Yount, but you can post all kinds of cool graphics and such later .
Let's do our utmost to reach the winner's circle...
Thank you for kickin' this off, Tom. It's been a busy couple of weeks
and my time has been taken up trying to get back in front of the camera.
IT'S ALL GAMBLING! Playing my bankroll on myself this time... DVD Actor's Reel,
new headshots and mailings to casting directors and potential agents. Gotta Get An Agent!
The YouTube page is now completed. (Tom & 'shoes... thanks for the ratings)
............... Here's the link ~ http://www.youtube.com/dellyount ...............
There are several shows on television right now
that I could be right for... I just need the opportunity to audition.
It's funny. I've spent the last 3 1/2 years teaching young actors HOW TO.
Now it's time, once again, to GO DO IT! (...think positive thoughts for me.)
For those folks new to the group, here's a brief history of HHH.
In the last 3 years, we've been able to raise awareness
and a bit of money for equine charity... specifically, the Exceller Fund.
The first year we were able to raise about $450, and about $700 each of the last 2 years.
Dawn Mellon was my original contact @ Exceller Fund
and she has now started her own non-profit organization.
While it certainly would be wonderful to make a HUGE HIT donation,
the important thing is to raise awareness about the efforts of these excellent groups
and the good work they are able to do helping horses After The Finish Line .
I've been in contact with Dawn for a few years now,
and have decided to support her efforts this year by sponsoring 8 Teams of Three with a $1 Trifecta Box on each of the Saturday Breeders' Cup races.
"OUTOFAHAT" (literally) Team Captain Invitations:
Now I get to ask a favor.
Will the following players please select 2 members to join you
as we try to score a few for a very good cause... thanks and good luck!

PUT YOUR TEAMS TOGETHER and I'll make the play for charity on your team's behalf.
(btw... please try to pick folks who are not already on another team)
If there are other local equine charities in your area,
folks are encouraged to make a play on BC Day for the charity of your choice.
Put a team together and sponsor a small charity wager. Every little bit helps...
and it just might bring you some extra Breeders' Cup good luck. Thank you!
Dell,
I'm confused (it doesn't take much). On top of the thread Tom Williams asked me to be on his team for the Filly and Mare Turf. Of course I'll accept, but later on down the thread you assigned that race to someone else.
Please clarify.
Steve
I think those assignments were for two different teams, Steve. Someone help me out, haven't we doubled and even tripled up on some races in the past? I know I recall one year in the past that we had 3 or 4 different Sprint teams.
I started the thread because we were getting closer to the event and I didn't see any mention of HHH. Probably jumped the gun, eh. I only chose the F/M Turf because we did well with it last year. If you'd like we can do one of the Friday races (F/M Sprint or Juvy Turf?)instead, so there's no overlap. You, BIG & Booze-man pick the race and I will fund the wager (exacta punch or triple part-wheel). I'd prefer not to tackle the Dirt Mile (& 70); too many stretchouts and turnbacks for my taste.
BTW, would you pick some lottery numbers for me? I sense the onset of a "Summer of Steve"-like streak .
Good Morning, Gentlemen (11:32 am., California) ... didn't mean to cause confusion.
I want to thank you guys for sponsoring as many races as we can. I love rootin' for'em on BC Day!
My thought has always been that this assemblage of talent, the players of upinclass,
have the ability to be both lucky AND good on any given saturday... (mtwthf & sundays too!).
With that in mind, applying our abilities for charity seems the right thing to do.
Let's face it... we're Handicapping Super-Heroes when we're at our best.
Talent is never given without reason... some purpose with the potential for good.
Good is GOOD... it feels good and I always wish more good for all of our members.
OH YES... "Overlap" is also a good thing.
This year, I'll be investing in 8 Teams of Three ... $1 Trifecta Boxes ($6 each race, $48 total).
These are separate wagers from our other SPONSORS' BC Equine Charity plays. Thanks, Guys!
SECOND REQUEST: Will the following players please select 2 members to join you
as we try to score a few for a very good cause... thanks and good luck!

UIC players are invited to volunteer to join a team... Let's fill'em up!
I will gladly tackle the distaff...as for finding a handicapping duo to help me....I'd appreciate if it two willing volunteers would sign up on this thread...anyone who had round pond and/or pleasant home would be ideal
Way cool. I'm onboard. Who wants to help me with the Juvenile Fillies? I've been looking at the early PP's, and this is the race more than any other that I can't get my arms around right now. I'm looking forward to seeing the Thorograph sheets on Wednesday or Thursday and watching a ton of video. Hopefully we can put our heads together and do some good.
Hey Lance, I'll be glad to help with the Juvie Fillies provided you're willing to volunteer your services to help with either Dirt Mile or Turf Mile for the teams I'm sponsoring
T, I've got slots open on teams for the Dirt/Turf Miles if you're interested. I need 4 volunteers total (2 for each). The gameplan right now is a 4 horse tri box for each race, but that's flexible depending on what the team decides.
Put me on the AE list for for anybody who needs someone to fill out a team. My resume for last year, blew both Juvy races and the Sprint, had Round Pound, Miesque Approval, Red Rocks/BTN exacta and blew the Classic.
I'd be glad to try to tackle the Juvenile, although my track record on this race has not been too good. Hopefully this year will be better.
If anyone would like to join in this effort, please indicate your interest on this thread.
Pre-entries will be announced tomorrow, and the pp's should be available almost immediately thereafter. That will provide plenty of time to over-analyze the race.
I've enjoyed doing this in the past, and I'd be happy to participate again if anyone has a spot to fill. Most of my BC success has come in the grass races.
LOL well not my favorite race ...... think has the highest %age faves winning .... but much better than the puppy races so yeah I'm ok with that. I think I was in a turf group too, and trust me, I'm much better there. I just can't remember who lead that group????
Since no one suggested otherwise, our group (henceforth to be called "Team Ouija Board")will tackle the F/M Turf. I'll start a separate thread, using the team name, as a sub-forum for us to post our thoughts and wisdom. The wager amount is $24 and will either be an $8 exacta part-wheel (A/BCD) or two $1 triple part-wheels (A/BCD/BCDEF)&(B/ACD/ACDEF), depending on how divergent our opinions are. Thanks in advance for your time and effort on this.
Since I'm already covering the F&M Turf on Tom Williams team, I'd like to give someone else a shot since there's a bunch of volunteers. At least that way my bad opinion in that race will only cost one team instead of two lol. Thanks for the consideration though and best of luck on Cup day.
doc, we need a third member for the team doing the Juvenile. John Halvorsen and I are on that team so far and we would be honored to have you on board.
Together the three of us might be able to make sense of the two year old colts.
